After finding out that Nathan Hartono didn’t win Sing! China, I then spent the next hour figuring out how the hell does 45 + 47 = 81. I consulted my calculator, my family, friends, even the Internet as though this was just one of those stupid mathematical pranks on the Internet out to baffle our minds that don’t make sense. (Like how many meh meh jumped across the wall?)
Okay, I admit that math isn’t my strongest suit. But 45 + 47 not 92 meh?
Apparently not. Not in the case of Nathan Hartono’s Runner Up win.
So the story goes like this.
There are 81 judges in Sing! China. The final results showed that Hartono scored 45 and Xinjiang’s Jiang Dunhao got 47. However, the results leading up to the final results showed Hartono triumphing with 42 votes and Jiang Dun Hao with 37 votes, which essentially adds up to 79.
And so the question begets. If 81 (total number of judges) – 79 (total number of votes before the final results) = 2, how the hell did Jiang Dun Hao rise from 37 to 47 votes when there were only 2 extra votes?
Then Lian He Zao Bao posted this video online, and we finally got our answers.
And if you missed out on the most important part. Here you go.
This is oddly disturbing. Apparently, this particular judge’s magical hands made the vote counter jump up by two votes. Hmm.
However, regardless of his win, Hartono was extremely grateful for everyone’s support and penned down his thoughts in a Facebook post.
He might not have won the competition. But his attitude will definitely make him win in life. Way to go, Nathan!
