Showing off on social media is not uncommon. Watch this video to the end and you’d agree:

This is why Instagram is swamped with gym selfies, pictures of luxurious hotel stays, and expensive dinners.

Some, like one Hong Kong influencer, regularly display their wealth on social media, to the displeasure of many netizens.

Unfortunately for her, some of her riches were snatched away under her very own roof.

Hong Kong Influencer Who Regularly Flaunted Her Wealth on IG Robbed in Her Own Home

A Hong Kong businesswoman and influencer lost HK$3.6 million (S$622,000) worth of valuables to a group of thieves who invaded her home on Tuesday (24 Nov).

The 25-year-old, her six-month-old son, and a domestic helper were tied up during the robbery.

According to SCMPthe robbery occurred at around 11.15am in a flat not too far from a police station.

Just before the invasion, So was sleeping in the master bedroom while her baby son was with her 45-year-old helper.

When the doorbell rang, the helper opened the door and three men rushed into the unit, two of whom were carrying either a fruit knife or a wooden rod.

So heard the noise and went to investigate the commotion only to find three strangers in her home.

She said that one of them was “rubbing her son’s forehead with force”, so she asked them to stop and take whatever they wanted.

One of them pulled So’s hair, asking where she kept the money, and when So replied that there was no cash in the flat, he punched her.

So and the helper were tied up using adhesive tape, and both were forced into the baby’s bedroom, where one stood guard while the other two combed the flat.

According to SCMP, So often posts about luxury watches and handbags, as well as cash, on social media.

Many of these expensive items ended up being taken away from her in the robbery.

Ten handbags, seven watches, a laptop, and two mobile phones were stolen in the incident, the police said.

The robbers took a small suitcase from the flat’s storeroom and stuffed all the valuables inside being fleeing from the scene.

Unsure How Three Men Entered Building

The police said the three suspects were Chinese men aged between 40 and 50. They all wore caps and black surgical masks during the invasion.

Beware of contracting Covid-19 during robberies, as they famously say.

Fortunately, So managed to free herself eventually, and she called the police. Officers scoured the area but couldn’t find the offenders.

What is unclear is how the suspects entered the flat, considering So had no idea who they were, nor had she any grudges with anyone.

The police are checking security camera footage for any evidence.

So only moved into the flat three months ago.

While So did flaunt her wealth on social media, she surely isn’t to blame for getting robbed.

If you’re jealous of someone boasting on social media, just unfollow them. It’s a pretty simple solution.
