I love hotels, but let’s face it: they aren’t the cleanest. And I don’t mean that in the literal sense.
Rather, I’m talking about the spiritual side.
With entire truckloads of creepy hotel pastas floating on the net, you can’t help but feel hesitant when checking into your hotel room. Like, is it gonna be your last night there? Forever?
But none, in my honestly scared-out-of-my-wits opinion, comes close to this.
Essentially a creepy pasta come to life, this hotel’s kinda special in the sense that it requires you to sign a waiver before you’re able to check in.
And the reason?
You guessed it. Coz it’s too damn haunted.
Shanley Hotel
Located in the quiet town of Napanoch, New York, this hotel sits square at the center of the Shawagunk Mountains. On top of its 35 rooms, it also has a hidden chamber in the basement.
Its most notable feature?
The sheer number of paranormal phenomena reported on the property.
Back story
Unsurprisingly, many people have speculated that the back story of the hotel might have something to do with the reported supernatural occurrences.
Since the hotel’s construction in 1985, several young deaths have been recorded: the original owner’s three newborn infants, as well as an on-site barber’s child, who perished after falling into a well.
According to records, supernatural activity has since been reported, in every corner of the hotel no less. Incidentally, a section of the property, that was once derived from the confines of a speakeasy and brothel during the Prohibition era, is touted to be the most haunted.
Following that unspeakable tragedy, multiple other deaths have occurred: some accidental, others by murder. Many were also reported missing.
Paranormal Investigators
As is almost customary of any ‘haunted’ institution/establishment, paranormal investigators were sent in to verify those claims. And the results?
Positive.
According to the investigators, there is reportedly funny activity going on in “Bordello”, otherwise known as “brothel”.
Guests there have also been said to experience shortness of breath, as well as extreme changes in emotions upon entering the area.
Additionally, there have also been reports of footsteps (which people believe are the footsteps of the original owner James Shanley himself), whistles and sounds of non-visible children. Objects were apparently also seen moving by themselves.
Paying a friendly visit
If you’re for some reason really hyped up for it, you can check out more details here.
Incidentally, the hotel currently boasts a 4.5 rating on TripAdvisor. So if all else fails, you’ll probably still be pretty satisfied with your stay.
Although going by what this reviewer had to say…
I will just leave the rest to your imagination, eh.
