Although the upcoming long weekend might seem like a perfect time to travel to Malaysia, there’s a good reason why you should at least plan ahead for the best time to cross the borders.

Well, at least we’ve got you covered for when you shouldn’t cross the borders at either the Woodlands or Tuas checkpoints.

Just yesterday (27 April), the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) posted this on their Facebook page:
In the post, ICA noted that the amount of traffic passing through both land checkpoints is “expected to be heavy” throughout the upcoming long weekend from the night of 29 April to the wee hours of 4 May.
The advisory also specified several peak hour timeframes that travellers should avoid, unless you want to spend a good portion of your long weekend being uncomfortably stuck in a traffic jam in between Singapore and Malaysia.
On its website, ICA also recalled how travellers had to wait up to four hours to cross the checkpoints during the Hari Raya Puasa holiday back in 2019, so it’s safe to say that you should probably read on to find out what times to avoid when you’re planning your short getaway to Malaysia.

The peak periods are as follows.
For departing from Singapore:
- 29 April (Friday) 1pm to 30 April (Saturday) 1am
- 30 April (Saturday) 5am to 3pm
For arriving in Singapore:

- 3 May (Tuesday) 8am to 4 May (Wednesday) 1am
And if you take a closer look, you might realise that a good portion of the first two and last two days of the long weekend are considered peak periods, largely due to the influx of both Malaysians returning to celebrate the Hari Raya Puasa long weekend, as well as Singaporeans taking the chance to have a short vacation.
So don’t forget to plan the timing for your weekend getaway before it happens, lest you want to end up having to waste precious hours waiting for the traffic jam at the checkpoints to be cleared.
