IKEA Recalls its Red & Blue MATVRA Children’s Bibs Due to Choking Hazard

You’d not have expected IKEA to recall any of their items.

After all, the company’s well-known for perfection, in both quality and price, for their items.

So this comes as a surprise, indeed.

IKEA Recalls Children’s Bibs in Red & Blue Due to Choking Hazard

In a shocking move (read on and you’d realise it’s actually not that shocking), the Swedish restaurant furniture giant has announced a recall of its MATVRA children’s bib in red and blue.

Lest you’re not aware, a bib is a garment worn hanging from the neck on the chest to protect clothing from accidentally spilled food.

The reason?

Choking hazard.

According to IKEA Sweden’s business area manager Emelie Knoester, “It has come to our attention that there is a risk for the button to come off if the child pulls at it.”

Wait, simi sai? There’s a risk for any buttons to come off if a child pulls mah, no?

But anyways.

No known incidents have been reported in Singapore, but IKEA’s of course playing it safe.

I mean, they’ve even once removed chicken wings from their restaurant simply because it doesn’t taste goody.

The recall is done as a precautionary measure.

This only affects the blue and red bibs; the other two designs in the same line (MATVRA fruit/vegetable pattern in green and yellow) are safe to use as they are of different material and design.

Customers who had bought them are advised not to use them, and return the product for a full refund or for a similar product. Proof of receipt isn’t required.

Which makes sense since IKEA only sell their own items.

IKEA Recalls: Turns out to be Common

Contrary to popular belief (or contrary to my belief), it seems like IKEA recalling their items are common.

A check on their website shows that they’ve four items to be recalled in Singapore.

I believe the children’s bibs got into the news as it’s a risk for kids.

In any case, it’s goody to know that IKEA takes safety seriously.

I actually have a suggestion to improve safety as well: maybe they can expand the restaurant, because there’s a risk of people colliding into each other during peak hours?
