Indonesia Confirms 2 Covid-19 Cases Today After Weeks Of Reporting 0 Cases

Indonesia has been the centre of a controversy since the Covid-19 outbreak occurred.

While Singapore, South Korea and many other countries started reporting infected cases, Indonesia has zero cases.

Or, to be more exact, they had zero cases.

Indonesia Report First Two Confirm Covid-19 Cases

On 2 Mar 2020, President Joko Widodo announced that Indonesia has its first two Covid-19 cases in the country.

The two people are a 64-year-old mother and her 31-year-old daughter.

The two were reportedly in contact with a Japanese citizen who was tested positive in Malaysia.

Nonetheless, President Joko Widodo said that Indonesia is well-prepared to handle Covid-19 cases.

“We have prepared over 100 hospitals with isolation rooms with good isolation standards. We also have equipment that meets international standards.”

Shortly before Indonesia confirmed two Covid-19 cases, an editorial on The Jakarta Post was published urging the Indonesian government to be more careful about handling the situation.

“Better To Be Safe Than Sorry”

The editorial pointed out that there are foreigners who had passed through Indonesia testing positive for Covid-19. And that it was entirely possible these foreigners could’ve contracted the coronavirus in the country.

It added that while 143 tests conducted so far were negative, 237 citizens and an American spouse evacuated from China were not tested.

They urge the Indonesian government to do more for public health instead of trying to attract more people into the country to revive the tourism industry.

After all, it’s “better to be safe than sorry”.

Controversial Zero Cases Indonesia

While countries like South Korea are plagued with increasing Covid-19 cases, Indonesia has declared itself to be Covid-19-free for the past few weeks.

They even explained why the Covid-19 virus didn’t visit their shores.

No, it’s not because they have a superior healthcare system.

It’s because they are blessed by God.

However, not everyone believed in their claims.

They felt that there were Covid-19 cases in Indonesia, except they went undetected.

Seven Tested Positive For Covid-19 Cases After Visiting Indonesia

With that, the number of people who tested positive for Covid-19 after visiting the country has increased to 7.
