A 48-year-old construction worker has died while a 49-year-old construction worker was injured while working on the upcoming SG-JB Rapid Transit System (RTS) Line in Woodlands North on Thursday (27 June).
Both workers were injured by falling steel reinforcement bars that were installed for the station’s foundation. The LTA had reported that the steel bars were seen swaying before falling.
Thereafter, both workers were subsequently taken to hospital, where the younger man later died.
Investigations Ongoing
Police investigations are ongoing, but based on preliminary findings, foul play is not suspected.
This is the third workplace fatality at an LTA worksite in seven months.
The LTA has called for a safety timeout to review and further enhance the safety processes, adding that they take a serious view on safety.
The authorities are currently working with the main contractor, Japanese firm Penta-Ocean Construction, and the subcontractor involved, Interno Engineering, to assist the family of the deceased worker.
Passenger service for the SG-JB RTS Line is expected to start by end 2026.
