Man Charged for Possessing a Stun Device that Looked like an iPhone & Pulling a Woman’s Hair in the Taxi

This might sound like something out of a mafia action movie, so you may have to hold your breath for a bit.

On Friday (21 May), a man was charged in court for possessing an unlicensed stun device and for grabbing the hair of a woman in a taxi.

But here’s the twist: the stun device bore an uncanny resemblance to an iPhone

Just imagine seeing someone tapping away on their seemingly innocuous iPhone, only to have it deliver an electric shock and leave you quite literally stunned.

Here’s what happened.

Man Charged for Possessing a Stun Device that Looked like an iPhone & Pulling a Woman’s Hair in the Taxi

Alexander Aw Boon Hao, 30, was charged with possessing the device at around 11.40pm at a block in Ang Mo Kio on 26 November 2020.

10 minutes before that, he had caused hurt to a woman by grabbing her hair in a taxi while on the way to the block.

Hence, he is also accused under the Penal Code of voluntarily causing hurt to the woman.

According to TODAYonline, the woman is his girlfriend. Court documents revealed that Aw had grabbed her hair and “caused her bodily pain” while they were in a taxi on the way to an HDB flat along Ang Mo Kio Avenue 10.

The stun device resembling an iPhone had been found by the police when they were checking through his belongings.

The police seized the device before arresting Aw.

Aw intends to plead guilty and he will be doing so in July.

Aw could face imprisonment of up to three years and fined up to S$5,000 if convicted under the Arms and Explosives Act for unlicensed possession of the stun device.

He could face the same maximum penalties for voluntarily causing hurt.

In another recent case of assault that took place on 4 May in a unit at Block 602, Clementi West Street 1, Huang Bocan, 29, had physically assaulted his sister with a wooden pole.

When authorities arrived at the scene, the 19-year-old victim, Huang Baoying, was found dead.

Aside from Huang Bocan, two other people—Chee Mei Wan, 41 and Lim Peng Tiong, 62—had also beat Huang Baoying with the wooden pole.

Lim is one of the two owners of the flat in which Huang Baoying’s body was found.

The cases of Huang, Chee and Lim have been delayed to 25 May.
