PAP’s Masagos Zulkifli Responded to Allegations of a Candidate’s Behaviour During his ICT

My mom always tells me, Boy ah, be careful of how you act outside. You’ll never know when it’ll come back to bite you in the ass one day.

While I’m pretty sure she’s indirectly telling me that I have a bad habit of offending people, it’s something that holds true for everybody.

Especially if you’re running for an election.

PAP Candidate Allegedly Behaved Badly During ICT & School

On 24 Jun, the PAP introduced their first batch of candidates for GE2020, one of whom is Mr Ivan Lim.

He might be fielded in Tanjong Pagar GRC, which is the ward that the late Lee Kuan Yew had served before. The GRC now comprises Indranee Rajah, Chan Chun Sing, Chia Shi-Lu, Joan Pereira and Melvin Yong Yik Chye, and won the 2015 GE with 77.71% of the votes.

But this election-hopeful has just met with a setback.

People who allegedly knew him went online to share less than positive things about him.

One said that he has spent “2.5 years of NS and 10 years of reservist life” with Lim and said he is “arrogant, selfish and lacking in integrity”.

Another, who was allegedly part of the same battalion as Lim, said he’s not as humble as he looks.

It wasn’t just during his days in the SAF either as people who were allegedly colleagues or polytechnic classmates took to the internet about his arrogance as well.

PAP Minister Speaks About The Allegations

Mr Masagos Zulkifli, or the discipline master of Singapore as some of us know him as, has spoken up about the allegations against Ivan Lim.

Disclaimer: It’s really cryptic.

He pointed out that sometimes, candidates who are revealed will draw responses “that are not surprising”.

Whether it’s because the PAP had already known about his behaviour before or they feel that such character assassination is the norm during elections, it wasn’t reported.

However, he also pointed out that a person should not be defined by “a moment in their career, or their time with people”; instead, they should be defined by their entire life.

He added that it’s also an opportunity for someone. if he has done something in the past. to redeem for his past actions.

He went on to say that PAP has chosen its candidates because it has seen qualities in all of them that will make them good leaders who will “serve our people well”.

So did he, or did he not behave badly in the past? Well, I guess only the people involved will know.

Do take note, however, that these are just allegations.

One thing for sure, though, this election is going to get really heated up.

Just look at the Workers Party line up and the upcoming Sengkang GRC fight.
