Across the different industries, there are Singaporean representatives who have made it big overseas.
Just talking about singers, we have JJ Lin, Stefanie Sun and Nathan Hartono among many others.
Sports wise, we have our Olympic medalist Joseph Schooling, who caused quite the sensation.
And of course, we also have our award-winning Jack Neo, who has constantly seen success with his films.
In recent years, the film-maker has conquered the local box office with his Ah Boys To Men series that aims to resonate with the male population.
Moving on, Jack Neo hopes to establish his career in Taiwan.
Just yesterday (March 1), Jack Neo announced that he will be filming his next movie, an action comedy, in Taiwan.
The movie, titled ‘Killer Not Stupid’, will be led by Jay Shih, Amber An and Lin Yu-chih (Nadou).
The story revolves around two killers, played by Shih and Lin, who want to leave their profession.
Why Taiwan
The 58-year-old says: “I have always wanted to go beyond the Singapore market and I realised that Taiwan audiences have been supporting my films when they air on television.”
Taichung is a special place in Neo’s heart as his comedy Money No Enough 2 (2008) has been screening at a second-run cinema there since May 20, 2009.
It is Taiwan’s longest-running movie!
According to The Straits Times, 90% of the movie will be shot in Taichung.
Some of the locations named include the Blue Road and the Dadu Zhichang night market.
Filming will commence in mid-March and is set to wrap up in May.
The movie will be screening in Singapore, Taiwan and Malaysia.
Jack Neo hopes that it can be shown in cinemas by the next Chinese New Year.
A taste of Jack Neo
If you haven’t realised, the name ‘Killer Not Stupid’ is a spin-off from the hit film ‘I Not Stupid’.
The satirical comedy was well-received among Singaporeans and remains one of the most iconic local films.
However, ‘Killer Not Stupid’ will be a different genre as compared to ‘I Not Stupid’, says Jack Neo.
But he promised that “the comedy that people like will be there and comedy is what I’m good at”.
I already cannot wait!
