To hear that one’s idol is unwell is truly a sad thing for fans. But for BTS, the world-renowned KPop group, with a worldwide fanbase (who call themselves ARMY), recent news of one beloved member must have had ARMYs all over the world in tears.
Acute Appendicitis & Positive COVID-19 Test
Jimin, also known as Park Jimin, suddenly experienced “abdominal pain along with a mild sore throat” on 30 January. He visited a hospital emergency room for a thorough examination and also took a PCR test.
He was then diagnosed with acute appendicitis and tested positive for COVID-19, said Big Hit Music in a statement on 31 January. Indeed, an unfortunate double whammy.
Jimin underwent surgery on the early morning of Monday. Fortunately, “the surgery was successful,” Big Hit Music said.
I can almost hear the collective sighs of relief from ARMYs.
Jimin is “currently recuperating after his procedure” and will be “receiving in-patient treatment for COVID-19 in conjunction with post-operative care”. While he is currently experiencing a mild sore throat, Big Hit Music assured ARMYs that he is making a “speedy recovery”.
It also added that the company “places the artists’ health as top priority” and will do everything they can to aid Jimin in his speedy recovery.
4th Member to Test Positive
ARMYs would be glad to know that Jimin had no contact with other members during the infectious stage of the virus. He also comes as the fourth member to be infected by the coronavirus.
Previously in December, members Jin, RM and Suga had tested positive but made a quick recovery. This came after the group had returned from live concerts held in the US. The concerts were the first BTS had held in the country since 2019.

Formed in 2013 by Big Hit Entertainment, BTS comprising members RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, V, Jimin and Jungkook, caught the attention of Kpop fans for their bad-boy persona and powerful dances. But it wasn’t until 2016 that the group’s popularity increased drastically.
Following the release of the song “Blood, Sweat and Tears”, BTS shot to fame internationally. Since then, the group has become immensely successful, even clinching top spots on the Billboard Hot 100 and winning awards at the American Music Awards.
After years of dedicating their time to creating music for fans, BTS announced that they would be on an extended period of rest on 5 December last year.
While the group takes a well-deserved break, ARMYs (especially Jimin stans) are all wishing Jimin “hwaiting” in hopes of a speedy recovery. May he return soon for an OT7 to carry out their eye-catching dances once again and totally not flash some abs ahem.
