Man Dressed as Joker Attacked Passengers in a Train with a Knife During Halloween

If you’ve ever celebrated Halloween, you’d know that while the intention is to spook people, you don’t actually want to scare people to death.

Much like a horror movie, the point is to scare others and get scared for the thrill of it.

So, when a man turned up to a train in Tokyo, Japan dressed up as Batman villain The Joker, people must have thought he was headed to a Halloween party.

But then they saw that he had a knife, and that there was blood on it.

Man Dressed as Joker Attacked Passengers in a Train with a Knife During Halloween

It turns out that the man had attacked 17 people on a Tokyo train line yesterday (31 Oct), causing mayhem as terrified passengers attempted to flee their carriages.

One unfortunate victim, a man in his 60s, was stabbed and lost consciousness. Reportedly one of three people who sustained serious injuries, the elderly man is in critical condition.

The attack occurred on the Keio express line bound for Shinjuku at around 10pm, just as many partygoers were heading to the city centre for Halloween parties.

Speaking to Reuters, one witness said they thought it was a Halloween stunt at first. But then he saw passengers running towards his carriage in a panic, followed by the man dressed as Joker “slowly waving a long knife,” which had blood on it.

The man, identified as a 24-year-old by police, was later arrested at the scene of the crime.

Videos Show Man in Green and Purple Suit; Commuters Run Away Screaming

Videos of the attack and its aftermath have since been uploaded online, including one which allegedly shows the attacker.

A man dressed in a purple suit with a green shirt – the colours of the Joker – can be seen in one video sitting down calmly in the train while smoking a cigarette. He did not resist arrest when officers apprehended him.

Other videos show passengers running frantically away from the attacker as well as a fire erupting in one of the train’s carriages.

Some desperate passengers even tried to escape through the train’s windows after it had come to a stop without its doors opening.

It’s believed that the man also sprayed some passengers with hydrochloric acid, which can cause severe chemical burns.

According to local media, the man told authorities that he “wanted to kill people so he could be sentenced to death”.

Investigations are ongoing.

In the 2019 movie Joker starring Joaquin Phoneix, Joker attacks and kills three men on a train with a gun.
