Woman Who Knocked into 2 People in Carpark at Jurong Fined & Banned from Driving for 9 Months

Let’s face it: anyone who drives would know that driving in a carpark isn’t easy.

Other than looking out for lots, you’d have to look out for people who are walking in the carpark because unfortunately, both humans and metal share the carpark.

And when metal hit humans, this happens.

Woman Who Knocked into 2 People in Carpark at Jurong Fined & Banned from Driving for 9 Months

On 11 March, Tuesday, 33-year-old Tan Chak Yee was fined $3,500 and disqualified from driving for nine months.

She apparently knocked into two people with her car at a carpark on 27 Oct 2019.

Around 4.40pm that day, she and her husband left block 252 Jurong East Street 24 after having lunch at the coffee shop.

They then made their way back home at Teban Gardens.

However, the accident occurred almost immediately afterwards.

As Tan turned left from the parking lot, she accidentally collided into two women who were in front of the car with a trolley.

Thankfully, a nearby minibus driver came to help the victims and drove them to Ng Teng Fong Hospital.

Tan’s husband accompanied the victims in the minibus while she drove to the hospital separately.

Injuries of The Victims

Both victims survived but suffered injuries.

One of them, a 48-year-old woman, suffered rib fractures and minor injuries to her chest and right knee and was given 14 days of hospitalisation leave.

The other was a 55-year-old woman who suffered minor injuries to her elbow and was given three days of medical leave.

They later filed a police report against Tan.

The Deputy Public Prosecutor asked for a fine and to disqualify Tan from driving for nine months.

However, the DPP also noted that it was possible that Tan’s view was blocked due to the traffic.

Tan could have been jailed for up to two years, fined up to $5,000 or both for causing grievous injury.

More Serious Road Accidents

In this scenario, it is a blessing that no one was seriously injured.

However, that can’t be said for the last few series of road accidents.

On 22 Feb at 9:25am, a 10-car pileup also occurred on the ECP.

The accident involved nine cars and a taxi, resulting in two people sustaining minor injuries and one motorist being taken to the hospital. As the accident happened in the rightmost lane of the expressway, traffic flow was not majorly disrupted.

Then recently on 1 March, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was alerted to an accident that happened on the East Coast Parkway (ECP) expressway at 6:45pm.

A motorcyclist had hit a road divider railing while turning, subsequently passing away due to his injuries.
