You know what? Here’s my chance for redemption.
You may ask why. Probably you have not seen the review I wrote for the Hawaiian Double Down in August.
All KFC fans were throwing hate comments at me because… they were sorry not sorry for it.
No lah, actually cause I did a negative marketing for them previously when the highly raved Hawaiian Double Down was in stores.
I begged for my boss to give me a chance to redeem myself and get into the good books of KFC and its fans.
So please read on and give me an opportunity to turn things right, okay?
Anyway, my colleague previously wrote about how the KFC’s New Hot & Cheesy Chicken is driving the internet crazy. Honestly, I had no idea how he did that because you have to try in order to know HOW GOOD that was.
Yes, you read that right, it was GOOD! This is how it looks like:
It puts a smile on your face. A little bit more than a smile.
Let me give you more details.
This new product is catered to those who love BOTH cheese and spice. Mix the both together and this is what you get – KFC’s New Hot & Cheesy Chicken.
The Secret
It’s not the chicken. It’s not the tenders. Neither is it the nuggets.
It’s the magical sauce.
On first taste, it’s like the all-time favorite: Nacho Cheese Sauce.
But after a few bites when you dip that fried, juicy drumstick into the sauce, you start to taste the spice.
Our dear Zhi Hao, who has a ultra low tolerance on anything spicy, still wasn’t able to take it. He is the ambassador for sugar, no spice and everything nice.
You might find this image overly abused by his very considerate Goody Feed colleagues.
Thus, if you’re on the Zhi Hao level, then I humbly advise you to go easy on the magical sauce.
Or if all else fails, just eat first then decide later. Oh! Or standby a carton of milk to go with the spice.
Anyway, side track a bit. You know there’s an old saying on how milk is the best cure when your tongue is on fire right?
Maybe you’ve tried, maybe you haven’t but do you know the science behind how it works?
Based on research, chilies contain a substance called capsaicin that your taste buds react to. While on the other hand, milk contains casein, a compound that is so in love with capsaicin, that it binds together, fights it and wins it over.
Now go forth and hao lian to your friends on this general knowledge the next time round. Just make sure to pronounce ‘capsaicin’ and ‘casein’ properly.
In a Nutshell
This New Hot & Cheesy Chicken from KFC is actually nothing about the marination of the meat or cooking method. It’s the mystical sauce cooked with a lot of love (and spice, of course).
The sauce is thick and sweet, giving it a strong (yet not too overwhelming) cheesy taste that would make cheese lovers jump in joy and just buy another set of Hot & Cheesy Chicken just for the sauce.
Unlike cheap cheesy stuff you find elsewhere, this sauce is akin to blending your favourite cheese and marinating it with spices. Yeah, it is that authentic and strong.
Go give it a try and let us know what you think?
Or if you’re all about DIY, then maybe you can try making Nacho Cheese Sauce and experiment with the different kinds of spices and see if you can get the same out-of-this-world taste?
Don’t forget to share your recipe ah!
Here, take a look at this review. It’s done by another colleague of mine (who thinks it’s not spicy, so it’s obviously not Zhi Hao’s BFF) but we all agree on this: we need more of that sauce.
