In Thailand, a 7-year-old student was allegedly caned 99 times by his 23-year-old teacher as he requested for early dismissal.
Boy was Caned until Body is Swollen, Teacher Refused to Apologise
From the picture above, it can be seen that the boy’s body is swollen. His arms, back and buttocks were covered in red marks and he even suffered from high fever due to the caning.
Despite the boy’s injuries, the teacher remained unapologetic and is only willing to offer compensation when confronted by the boy’s parents.
The Boy was Disobedient and Deserved it
When asked about the reason for caning the boy, the teacher simply said that the boy should be punished for being disobedient by leaving the classroom early. This prompted the teacher to cane him 99 times.
With the school management, a meeting was arranged between the teacher’s mother and the boy’s parents to negotiate the terms of compensation.
However, as the teacher showed no signs of guilt and remorse, the boy’s parents now refused to accept any form of compensation, especially since the punishment meted out was way too harsh for a 7-year-old boy.
The boy’s parents have now lodged a police report and the case is now under investigation.
An inhumane act
To many people, caning a student 99 times is simply an inhumane act and is definitely not accepted by the public. The red angry marks on the boy have shocked people as they are alarmed by the teacher’s act.
What is worse is that the teacher showed no sign of remorse, seemingly unaware of what he did wrong. This will only invoke rage in the boy’s parents as well as people who are aware of this issue.
Hopefully, the teacher will be able to reflect on his own actions and apologise sincerely to both the boy and his parents.
