A few days ago, we told you of the news that someone died from a bottle.
But if you didn’t read, here’s the gist of what happened before:
- Family having a housewarming party in the Spottswoode 18 condominium on 18 Aug 2019.
- Mr Nasiari Sunee, a 74-year-old delivery driver, sat down on the condominium BBQ pit area to eat, with his wife and relatives right beside him.
- Suddenly, a loud thud can be heard.
- Mr Nasiari Sunee was then on the ground and bleeding. His wife got bruises on her shoulder.
- Glass bottle on the table can be seen.
- Mr Nasiari died in the hospital after his heart stopped 4 times.
I ended the article by speculating whether it was caused by littering, or if the bottle dropped accidentally. As it turns out, I and a lot of other people who thought that way might be wrong.
Because the BBQ pit is too far away from the windows.
Police interviewed condo residents
After the death, police went door to door looking for the culprit. They showed residents a picture of an Italian wine bottle, asked if they had been drinking wine and were willing to give fingerprint samples if needed.
But residents said that there were overhangs that would block falling items from reaching the area. Each balcony also has a small ledge extending out. The pit was simply too far away from the balconies of the flats.
To prevent glass shattering in the rubbish chute, glass bottles are often left beside the chute as requested by the building management.
Thus, anyone’s fingerprints can be on a glass bottle, while also including the original owner’s.
High rise littering exists, but it’s usually small items like cigarette butts.
Here’s another angle, to help you understand how far away the BBQ pit is from the flats.
And another one, which is an artist impression but relatively accurate:
Now, there’s probably a lot more to investigate, but it is safe to say, from what we know, that it doesn’t seem like this is a simple littering or wine bottle dropping accident anymore.
Nephew’s heartbreaking message on Facebook
On 19 Aug 2019, Mr Nasiari’s nephew left a tribute to him on Facebook.
And on 21 Aug 2019, he also left another message towards the culprit.
Reminder: Killer litters already installed in some areas
A while ago, we can already see installations like the following in HDBs:
As we said before, those are meant to be used for catching high-rise littering.
In this article’s case, there’s no such camera footage.
But, I’d like to say that I wish to be living in a world where these cameras don’t have to be installed in the first place.
