Warning: another triggering news for dog owners.
This issue was brought to light by dog owner Elizabeth Ting who left her dog named Mocha at a boarding centre situated in Bukit Panjang Plaza while she went on a holiday.
When Ting’s helper went to pick up Mocha eight days later, Mocha was found to be limping and was suffering from an injured left hind leg.
Ting returned home the next day and noticed that Mocha had almost lost its voice.
According to her Facebook post, Ting said that she had confronted the manager whom she named as Dennis Ng.
He allegedly claimed it was a “minor injury he got when he was scratching the cage and it’d heal in a few days”.
Ting says that she regrets believing what Ng said.
She took Mocha to a vet three days later and found out that Mocha’s left hind leg was dislocated from its socket completely.
It can be seen on the X-rays that Mocha’s left leg seems shorter than its right.
To make things worse, Mocha had to undergo surgery because the vet was unable to fix its dislocated bone.
Through the surgery, Ting found out that Mocha was also suffering from a fracture around its hip bone.
She wrote: “Dr Lee (the vet) told me quietly that such joint dislocation didn’t happen easily. To cause such an injury, there must be great impact like he fell from a very high place. I couldn’t imagine the excruciating pain Mocha had suffered (joint dislocation, without pain killer and GOD KNOWS FOR HOW LONG)…
Again, Dr Hsu confirmed that to sustain such injury, there must have been trauma to it.”
“(Ng) denied responsibility (as expected), gave lots of justifications and suggested that Mocha’s injury was caused after he left the shop (and probably by my helper)…”
So Ting went to request for the CCTV footage and sure enough, Mocha was already limping as it exited the shop.
“So nothing to deny already right? But the boss still refused to admit that Mocha was injured under his care.”
Coincidentally, the shop’s lease with the mall was expiring soon.
“We told him that we were going to file a police report on suspected dog abused and he simply told us that he intended to close down his shop anyway. No apologies, no attempt to investigate, no intention to assume responsibility.”
Wah seriously this guy…
Thankfully, Mocha is recovering after the surgery.
However, nobody knew what actually happened in the store. Ng claims that the CCTVs were spoilt and Ting is hoping that someone who noticed anything amiss about the store could help her.
Mocha was in the store from 25 Nov to 3 Dec.
Agri-food and Veterinary Authority is now investigating the case.
