For those of you who shop online on a regular basis, Single’s Day should be no stranger to you.
Kinda like how Halloween is the best day of the year for fans of the horror genre, Single’s Day is the best day of the year for online shoppers.
So, why am I talking about something from a month back? Shouldn’t I jump on the bandwagon and write about Christmas?
…Well, because I actually care more about Single’s Day than Christmas. (Blasphemy, right?)
At the launch of Lazada’s first offline consumer event, chief executive Alexis Lanternier said that Lazada plans to ramp up the number of self-collection points across the island next year.
“It was Saturday and I spent my time at the warehouse to help pack, with most of the team. It was so overwhelming, as we had so many orders to pick and pack.”
“Even after Singles’ Day, there is more volume with the shopping season and people buying gifts for Christmas. There is a limited number of trucks and drivers in Singapore, and everyone is optimising to deliver,” said Mr Lanternier.
TL;DR: Single’s Day + Holiday Season = overwhelming orders
At the moment, customers can pick up their goods from the 200 POPStation and 100 Ninja Van collection points. Lazada is currently in talks to build more collections points.
It’s a little unbelievable that 300 collection points are not enough though! Goes to show how prominent online shopping is these days, no?
He also added that “Shipping in Singapore is one of the highest costs in the region. If you manage to bring that down, it will mean more savings for the Singapore customer.”
Plans are also underway for Lazada to set up 13 more collection points at various malls by March next year, in a strategic agreement struck with CapitaLand.
Well, I’m not complaining. I mean, who would? More collection points = more convenience, right?
Aside from collecting and returning their goods, customers can also try out their purchases using power points and fitting rooms at the premises.
(I like how they’ve actually thought of everything! Take that, traditional shopping methods!)
Now, it’s fun fact time!
As of 2016, Alibaba Group has bought controlling stake in Lazada in order to support Alibaba’s expansions into Southeast Asia.
Oh boy, Alibaba really is everywhere these days. Hmm, I really wonder if Alibaba will completely take over the market one of these days?
