First, It Was PAP. Now, It’s Workers’ Party’s Leon Perera & Nicole Seah
Just when we thought we could take a breather from the Tan Chuan-Jin and Cheng Li Hui drama, another saga is brewing, this time within the Workers’ Party. The spotlight is now on Leon Perera and Nicole Seah, both married but not to each other. A video of the two has been making rounds online, showing Mr Perera gently stroking the hand of a woman who appears to be Ms Seah, as they enjoy some wine at an outdoor eatery.
The Workers’ Party has since responded.
Here’s what happened.
WP Looking into Viral Video of Leon Perera & Nicole Seah Allegedly Behaving Intimately
Just as we were trying to wrap our heads around the Tan Chuan-Jin and Cheng Li Hui affair, the Workers’ Party dropped a statement on their Facebook page. The timing couldn’t have been more impeccable.
Earlier today, a silent video started trending, showing a man who bears a striking resemblance to Aljunied GRC Member of Parliament Leon Perera. He’s seen having wine with a woman who looks a lot like Nicole Seah at an outdoor eatery.
Now, you might think, “What’s the big deal? They’re colleagues in the same party.” But if you zoom in, you’d see that Mr Perera isn’t just holding Ms Seah’s hand; he’s caressing it.
As the video progresses, he eventually lets go of her hand.
However, do note that the resolution and lighting are rather bad, so Ms Seah’s “hand” could be a fish fillet instead or anything lah I don’t know.
But with the video racking up over 50K views in less than five hours, it was only a matter of time before the Workers’ Party responded.
And respond they did.
In a Facebook post, they acknowledged being “aware of a video clip circulating online today that suggests an inappropriate exchange between two senior Party members.
“The Party is currently looking into the matter and will comment when we have the facts. The Party also expects all its members to fully own and account for their behaviour.”
Leon Perera & Nicole Seah: Both Married, but Not to Each Other
Both Mr Perera and Ms Seah are married, but not to each other.
The 53-year-old Mr Perera, who heads the party’s media team, is a father of two and is married to a woman named Carol, as per previous reports.
He ran as a WP candidate for East Coast GRC during the 2015 general election and subsequently became a Non-Constituency MP until 2020. He then joined the Aljunied GRC team and won the election. Before stepping into the political arena, he was a civil servant and later became a businessman.
Ms Seah, 36, is the WP’s Youth Wing president, and she joined the party in the last election, quickly becoming a “star” candidate.
She made her political debut in 2011 with the National Solidarity Party at the 2011 general election, where she was the youngest candidate, and was often compared with PAP’s Tin Pei Ling.
She was part of the party’s team that contested in East Coast GRC in the 2020 general election. They narrowly lost to the PAP team led by Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat (who was then the 4G leader).
Ms Seah and her husband, Bryan, welcomed their second daughter in April 2022. The couple tied the knot in 2015.
