Unless you live in a cave, you’d know Li Nanxing.

Some call him Yan Fei, some call him Ah Bao and many of us call him the TCS Ah Ge. As one of the most talented actors in Singapore the world, the 54-year-old who looks 34 is also the face of anti-scam.

Earlier this year, this advertisement was played repeatedly in our office lobby, and we’ve come to see Yan Fei as the God of Anti-Scams instead of the God of Gamblers.

Anyways, the world has changed because nowadays, Baby Sharks drown our ears in our office lobby instead.

Shopee, stop it!

But I digress.

A few months ago, a scammer impersonate as Li Nanxing in Instagram and tried to borrow money from his fans. Luckily, one of his fans told him about it, and Li Nanxing posted an update on his official Instagram account to expose the scammer.

Accompanying the image was these Chinese words: 非常感激这位粉丝!以上是我们的对话,我要再次声明 @lnxglobal_personal 不是我的帐户,请大家要小心!

Translation: “Appreciate this fan who alerted me about this! The image is of our conversation: I’ll like to reiterate that @lnxglobal_personal isn’t my account. Please don’t fall for the scam!”

But it seems like scammers can’t get enough of the Anti-Scam Ah Ge, for a new scam impersonating as him has emerged.

“Li Nanxing Reveals How He Made S$4,7 Million After His Bankruptcy – He Claims Anyone Can Do it & Explains This Home Based Opportunity On “First Look Asia”!”

Now, imagine you seeing the headline above in Facebook. Would you believe it and click on it?

Firstly, the facts: any fan would know that Li Nanxing used to rack up almost $2 million debt after a failed business and a past gambling addiction. He has since bounced back and is now emerging even stronger.

First Look Asia is a current Channel NewsAsia programme that airs every weekday from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. In other words, it’s a real show (I watched a bit of it every morning before rushing over to work—there’s obviously no Li Nanxing).

So, combining both facts together, it looks legit: except that it isn’t.

Li Nanxing Comes Out to Warn his Fans About Fake News

Six days ago, Li Nanxing posted this on his official Instagram account:

And here’s the caption lest you can’t read it:

“What is Bitcoin? We have no idea what it does, how it works nor anyone is interested. How foolish of anyone to write an article about our artiste Li Nanxing investing in Bitcoin. Simply ludicrous! Please ignore and disregard any such circulation that you may come across. “ all these are fake news!

Our forever young Ah Ge then celebrated his 18th birthday…

…and then told us again that it’s all a scam.

For the record, he was never a bankrupt.

Scam Website Even Shows an Image of First Look Asia

The scam website is a Bitcoin website, and within it, they even include an image of First Look Asia. The goal is to convince unsuspecting readers that Li Nanxing has earned a lot of money from this Bitcoin platform, and First Look Asia, a reputable mainstream programme, covered the story.

Needless to say, it’s all fake.

Ah Ge Not the Only One: Peter Lim, Zoe Tay and Aileen Tan Also Kena

Last year, scammers used the images of Singapore billionaire Peter Lim , and the billionaire has since lodged two police reports.

Additional, Zoe Tay and Aileen Tan were also victims of online identity fraud, with the scammer using fake stories to promote some anti-aging cream.

Guess it’s not all roses when you’re popular, eh?
