Lorry Driver Who Killed 3 Pedestrians In Horrific Yio Chu Kang Accident Last Year Fined

Last year in April, a lorry suddenly veered off the road and onto the pavement along Ang Mo Kio Ave 6.

The out-of-control lorry mowed down three pedestrians who were on the pavement at the time before crashing against the front of a stationary SBS bus.

The accident created shockwaves across Singapore.

Shortly after the accident, footage of the incident appeared online.

One showed the lorry speeding up before it veered up to the sidewalk.

The other footage showed the incident from another perspective.

The SBS bus visibly shook from the impact.

A father-daughter duo was killed in the incident, as well as a close family friend.

25-Year-Old S’porean Man Arrested

Back when the incident happened, the lorry driver, a 25-year-old man was brought to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital.

He was subsequently arrested for dangerous driving causing death.

When reporters swarmed Chang Fu Pte. Ltd., which the lorry belonged to, a man claimed that it was his son driving the lorry. His vision had allegedly gone “blurry and he couldn’t see anything before the accident happen”.

And nothing more was mentioned about the incident until now.

Man Was Driving Without License And Insurance

One and a half year later, we finally hear more about the incident.

According to Straits Times, Xu Kai Xiang, now 27 years old, was working for his father at Chang Fu Pte Ltd as a safety supervisor at that time.

During the incident, he was on the way to collect a parcel.

It was found out that Xu did not possess a Class 3 license, which is required to drive the lorry. Instead, he only has a Class 3A license.

His father was not aware of his lack of license and allow him to drive his own car and the lorry.

Judgement Has Been Passed

For driving the lorry without a Class 3 license and insurance, Xu was slapped with a $1,400 fine.

For that, he was granted a discharge not amounting into an acquittal pending the results of the coroner enquiry.

In other words, he’s being let off for the time being.

Depending on the evidence that are discovered later, he can still be punished for it at a later time.
