If you don’t have a driving license, you can’t drive a vehicle. Simple logic but hard to understand for some people.
Chased by Police
A 39-year-old man was recently arrested for driving without a license, refusing to listen to the traffic police’s instruction to stop, and fleeing the scene.
On Wednesday (10 May), at around 4 pm, a witness noticed a large number of police officers conducting a search outside Block 239B of Compassvale Cresent in Sengkang.

According to the witness, after a small lorry drove to the area, they saw the driver abandon the car and flee.
A reporter who later went down to the scene noticed that the front of the lorry appeared to be crashed.
According to Shin Min Daily, traffic police first noticed the lorry on the Tampines Expressway (TPE) at about 3:15 pm and asked the driver to stop for inspection. Instead of cooperating, the driver accelerated away.
Traffic police began chasing the lorry from Tampines Expressway to Sengkang, where they found his abandoned lorry around the neighbourhood.

The Search
To search for the culprit at large, besides deploying more manpower, police also deployed police dogs to assist in the search for the driver. The parking lot was even blocked for investigation.
Only at around 6 pm did the police manage to find the driver in hiding and arrest him.
The culprit looked to be calm while being walked to the car, but his expression seemed to be in a state of shock and confusion.
Further investigation revealed that the man was arrested for driving without a license, and while no other updates on the case have been reported, it is likely that other criminal offences, including evading the police, will have to be charged as well.

For driving without a license, first-time offenders can be fined up to $10,000 and jailed for up to three years, while a repeat offender can be fined up to $20,000 and jailed for up to six years.
Stricter Crackdown
If you didn’t know, the government has been taking a stronger stance against irresponsible driving with the passing of the Road Traffic (Amendment) Act in 2019.
Just this March, a man was caught driving without a valid license and was arrested and sentenced to five weeks in jail.
The offender only had a provisional driving license and not the Class 3 and Class 3A licenses needed for the van he was driving.
Like the case above, the offender drove off instead of cooperating.
