Good news is a bit like bubble tea these days: it exists, but it’s hard to come by.

In the past two days, experts said Covid-19 might last two years, Kim Jung-Un has reappeared, and Elon Musk has gone insane.

Unfortunately, the bad news keeps on flowing in.

WP’s Low Thia Khiang Now in ICU After a Fall at Home That Caused a Head Injury

Low Thia Khiang, the Aljunied MP and former secretary-general of the Workers’ Party (WP), is currently in the intensive care unit after suffering a head injury.

According to CNA, the 63-year-old politician and businessman was injured in a fall at home on 30 Apr.

In a media statement, his party said that he is conscious and is currently being monitored.

“Mr Low is conscious. Mr Low’s family has requested for privacy so he can focus on his recuperation”.

In his absence, the other Aljunied GRC MPs will cover his constituency duties, assisted by former NCMP Gerald Giam, the statement said.

Well-Wishes

Many politicians came forward to wish Mr Low well, including PAP MPs and opposition leaders.

In a Facebook post, Trade and Industry Minister Chan Chun Sing said “I wish Mr Low a quick recovery. I just had a good, long conversation with him at the last Parliament sitting.”

Speaker of Parliament Tan Chuan-Jin wrote: “I knew he had a fall when Pritam applied for leave from Parliament sitting for him but I didn’t know that it was quite so serious. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family Mr Low. Wishing you speedy recovery.”

In addition to sharing their media statement on the matter, Pritam Singh, the Secretary-General of the Workers’ Party, said the worker’s party is praying for Mr Low’s speedy recovery.

Started Political Career in 1988

If you’re one of our younger readers, you may not be familiar with the ex-WP chief.

Mr Low began his political career in 1988, losing as a WP candidate in Tiong Bahru GRC.

He later became MP after winning the Hougang seat at his second election in 1991, and has served as an MP since.

In 2001, Mr Low took over as secretary-general of the WP from Mr J.B. Jeyaretnam and led the party as chief for 17 years.

He stepped down from the position in 2018 and was replaced by Pritam Singh.

This news has certainly come as a shock to Singaporeans. Goody Feed wishes Mr Low a speedy recovery.

Because without him fighting in an election, it would be such a boring election to watch.
