Do as you would be done by.
That’s one of my guiding principles in life. It’s pretty simple, really. Don’t be a dick to others unless you want others to be a dick to you.
Last Friday (15 Dec), an Indonesian maid was sentenced to a year’s jail for dumping hot oil at her employer’s 14-year-old son.
The maid, Sugianti, got into the argument with the boy on 15 Feb. She was approximately 5 months into her employment by the family.
What the heck? Just what kind of argument would warrant such drastic actions?
Apparently, the conflict started when Sugianti accused the boy of spilling some liquid on the floor a few days ago, causing his sister to slip and fall.
The boy then toppled a shelf belonging to Sugianti, scattering her belongings all over.
Angered by his actions, they shouted at each other before the boy eventually returned to the living room to watch the television.
Later on, the boy put Sugianti’s belongings back in place, in fear that his father would punish him for his actions.
Sugianti continued scolding the boy, further angering the boy. He then went into the kitchen and covered her mouth and pulled her hair. Amidst the struggle, the boy injured Sugianti’s face with his nails.
Afterwards, when the boy is inside the toilet, Sugianti opened up the door and poured the hot oil on him. The boy’s right arm and thigh were scaled.
The maid then tapped on the boy’s thigh with the frying pan, taunting him and telling him not to “act tough”.
HOLY. SHIT.
I understand that the boy is being a little prick, but she didn’t have to pour hot oil on him!
“The accused’s own behaviour spoke to the viciousness in the way she had attacked (the boy),” Deputy Public Prosecutor Chong Kee En.
“There is no reason for the domestic worker to resort to violence when she has the time and opportunity to seek help from proper and legitimate channels”.
Although I feel no pity for the boy (since he’s being a little prick), it’s still not right for the maid to attack him with hot oil. The boy could very well be disfigured for life due to the hot oil!
Please, everyone. Learn to take a deep breath before doing anything rash. You wouldn’t want to do something you’ll regret a few years down the road.
