Hi, dear reader, and welcome to another episode of Singaporeans Taking Out Their Anger On Random Workers During The Covid-19 Outbreak.

Reader: You guys should really come up with a shorter name for this show.

We’re working on it.

Today’s episode takes place at everyone’s favourite supermarket: Sheng Shiong.

Man Lost Temper Due to Waiting Time in Sheng Siong

As you know, all shoppers are required to have their temperature taken before entering malls, supermarkets, and wet markets, as part of the enhanced circuit breaker measures.

Well, one man at Sheng Siong’s Block 660A Edgedale Plains outlet got a little peeved for what he perceived to be a long wait to get his temperature taken.

And just like the Singaporeans in our previous episodes, the man started taking his anger out on those around him, namely the Sheng Shiong employees.

In the video, when one employee heads over to where the man is standing, presumably to take his temperature, the man said, “Thought you serve your customer already mah.”

And instead of letting the employee take his temperature, the man continued to rant.

“No need come… now I want to go buy my thing, I not come back to talk to you all. You all not the boss of Sheng Siong, very simple. This is not your money. I pay money buy thing one.

Ah, I see. Most people would assume you went to the supermarket to play football, but thanks for telling the employees just in case they didn’t know.

“I pay money buy thing one.”

Later, he asked the employee a simple question “Your job is what? To take temperature, right? Then why you not here?”.

I’m guessing it wasn’t because he was watching Tiger King on his laptop; he probably had some other things to do.

When the employee tried to explain, the man interrupted, saying, “How long you want me to wait? Eh, now is not peak period, you know, for me to wait. And if you call somebody to come then somebody must come what. What, I don’t understand.”

I also don’t understand.

Employees Were Busy With Other Tasks

One eyewitness who spoke to Stomp said that the couple claimed they had waited five minutes in the queue for temperature-taking outside Sheng Siong, which is why they were upset.

But there was a very good reason for this.

“As customers, we could see that the staff were all busy doing the packing and unpacking and cashiering,” the eyewitness said.

“We came a few minutes before the couple and did as we were told. There was indeed a little wait but we could see that all the staff were occupied so it was really understandable.”

In addition, the man was actually standing in the wrong line beside the temperature-taking lane, according to the eyewitness.

And when the staff member wanted to take his temperature, he refused and said, “I want to take you don’t take, now I don’t want you want to take already.”

The man may as well have dropped to the floor and started throwing a tantrum.

But he didn’t stop there.

He even insulted the staff and said they were not qualified to talk to him and mocked their English, said the eyewitness.

“I felt really sorry for the staff as they tried to apologise but the man just carried on. He continued to scold scold scold while the staff scanned him.

“When other people behind asked if they could enter the supermarket first, the man said he came first and went in.

“What a ridiculous guy.”

What a ridiculous guy indeed.

Several Such Cases

This guy isn’t the only frustrated one out there, however. There have been numerous reports of angry residents scolding or even assaulting employees and enforcement officers who were just doing their job.

Just yesterday, a man stabbed an NParks officer because he was told to wear a mask.

Tensions are high at the moment, but why take it out on those who are just doing their job?

We’re all stressed at the moment, it’s not just you.

So, if you happen to be at a supermarket or fast food restaurant and are getting upset at the employees for taking too much time, just remember this man’s immortal words:

“I pay money buy thing one.”

Just pay your money and buy your thing, one.
