I understand that many people feel that the law banning the sale of alcohol after 10:30 pm is really unnecessary and weird.
I, for one, have a hard time explaining this to my foreign friends. To them, the official reasons are but excuses, but let’s not talk about this…sensitive topic for now.
But how far would you go for a bottle of beer? As refreshing as it is, I’m sure we can wait till the weekends just to enjoy a mug or two.
But such was not the case of this man who assaulted a 7-Eleven employee after being told that he was unable to purchase alcohol at approximately 10.37 pm.
The event took place on 15 Feb, at the 7-Eleven stall in Changi Village.
According to Stomper Firdaus, the attack lasted for approximately 30 seconds. Here’s a photo, taken by Stomper Firdaus after the attack:
HOLY SHIT—THAT’S A LOT OF BLOOD! What the hell did that criminal scum hit the employee with?
“He was the only staff around and was beaten up by the customer,” Firdaus said. “The employee called the police and ambulance himself.”
The employee was later sent to Changi General Hospital (CGH) for treatment.
According to a spokesperson of 7-Eleven, they are aware of the incident and that a customer “got angry and upset that he was unable to purchase beer at the store.”
“All cabinets containing alcohol are locked as per the retail sales restrictions under the Liquor Control (Supply and Consumption) Act,” the spokesperson said.
I KNOW THE LAW MIGHT NOT MAKE SENSE TO SOME OF YOU, BUT WHAT WAS THE EMPLOYEE SUPPOSED TO DO? BREAK THE LAW AND SELL THE ALCOHOL?
In fact, I’m not even sure if the transaction will go through. According to my friend’s mother who works in a supermarket, the cashier system will reject all alcohol purchases made after 10.30 pm, so you can’t even sweet talk your way through.
“The 7-Eleven team has visited him and will continue to provide all necessary assistance to him and his family to help in his recovery following this incident.” the spokesperson added.
According to the spokesperson, 7-Eleven will be cooperating fully with the police in their investigations.
Criminals like this shouldn’t be allowed to roam the streets. They should be placed behind bars—and I believe a little less alcohol might be good for this fella too.
