For most people performing their filial duty means taking good care of their elderly parents, making sure that the parents have a comfortable life until the end.
However, for a small handful, violence seems to be their “language of love” and “going to prison” is their headed-to destination.
Son: Sorry No Cure
Sometimes, having basic manners is all it takes to prevent getting yourself beaten up.
A 60-year-old father, Mo JinTian (莫金田), and his 31-year-old son, Mo LuLong (莫陆龙) were delivering furniture to a customer’s home one evening in February of this year.
As furniture are heavy in general, the item is being delivered on a trolley that was being pushed by the father.
Since the customer lives in a flat they needed to use the elevator to reach the correct floor.
However, as the father was pushing the trolley into the lift, one of the wheels of the trolley ran over the son’s right foot.
When moving the furniture into the home, the father bumped the furniture into his son as well.
The son alleged that his father never apologized to him for those incidences and he got mad so he needed to let his father know how he felt…
…by swinging his right arm and landing his balled-up fist right into the left side of his father’s face.
The duo likely then worked out their differences – would have been much simpler if this was done in the first place, skipping the punching stuff entirely – and they continued moving furniture.
A Punch That Sent His Father to the Hospital
Unbeknownst to the son, his punch packed quite a… well, punch!
On 10 February 2021, the father sought medical attention at Tan Tock Seng Hospital’s emergency department due to blurred vision in his left eye.
A scan later revealed that his left upper jawbone (maxilla) and left lower jawbone (mandible) were fractured.
On 2 March 2021, the father underwent surgery to fix his fractures.
He was discharged the very next day.
During his follow-up between 11 March and 25 March 2021, the father’s face had swellings and there was a slight depression on his face.
It was later found out that the son and his father got into another argument, and that the son hit his father yet again.
Sentenced to 6 Months in Jail for Causing Injury
Mo JinTian was convicted on one count of intentionally causing injury.
The judge sentenced him to 6 months in jail.
The judge also reminded the son that his father is already old, and that he should work with his dad to solve any problems they may have, and not resort to violence the first chance he gets.
