If you love eating sweet stuff and drinking bubble tea, just know that it’s okay to continue eating and drinking them.
As long as you do it in moderation.
By that, I mean don’t do 8 glasses of bubble tea and think you’re going to get away with it.

This dude tried and let’s just say, it didn’t end well for him.
Man Can Only Drink Bubble Tea & Eat Desserts
According to Sin Chew Daily, a man from Fuzhou, China, who suffered from viral gastroenteritis lost his appetite.
The only things he could eat was sweet dessert and milk tea. He could drink almost 500ml to a litre of milk tea every single day.

The consequences?
He fell into a coma and was diagnosed with diabetic hyperosmolar, a condition caused by high sugar level in the blood.
He was found unconscious in his home and sent to the intensive care unit for treatment.
At the hospital, it was found that he has an electrolyte disorder and severe organ damage.
When they test his blood, his blood sugar level was found to be at 88mmol/L, which is 10 times higher than normal blood sugar levels.
He was also diagnosed with hyperkalemia and hyponatremia.

Thankfully, He Survived
Luckily, there’s a happy ending to this story. Sort of.
The doctors managed to save his life, although it sounds like he’ll be dealing with the consequences of his actions for quite some time.
Not The First Case
In Aug 2019, we wrote about an 8-year-old girl who drank bubble tea and ate sweets daily developed kidney cancer.
According to the doctor, overly sweet food can easily harm the kidneys. Although a child can ingest a seemingly small amount of it on a daily basis, over the years this can be extremely damaging, and result in cancer.
The girl eventually passed away.

And more recently, a man who decided to replace his three daily meals with bubble tea had to be sent to the hospital after experiencing severe stomach pain.
He had to undergo surgery to remove two large lumps of tapioca clogging up his intestines.
Moral of the story? Sweet drinks aren’t an acceptable replacement for plain water, so if you have friends who’ll rather have a cup of teh peng, coke or other beverages than drink plain water, it might be a good time to ask them to change their habits.
