Man Forced 11YO Child to Overdose on Pills to Prove to Wife That She’s at Fault During an Argument

Unless you’re in a relationship with Barney the dinosaur, you’re always going to have arguments with your partner.

It’s a necessary part of any healthy relationship.

But of course, there are times when arguments can descend into raging clashes.

When this happens, the normal thing to do is to walk away from your partner, give them some space, and resume the discussion when both of you have cooled down.

However, this man chose a slightly more sociopathic approach.

Man Forced 11YO Daughter to Overdose on Pills to Prove to Wife That She’s at Fault During Quarrel

A man forced his 11-year-old daughter to overdose on sleeping pills after he was angered by an argument with his wife.

On Wednesday (11 Nov), the 40-year-old pleaded guilty to three charges of ill-treating a child in his custody, intentionally perverting the course of justice, and using insulting words on the police.

Another three charges will be taken into consideration for sentencing, according to CNA

It all started with a simple disagreement.

At the time of the offences, the man and his wife were living separately due to ongoing marital disputes, and the victim (the 11-year-old daughter) was living with the man.

On 7 April 2018, the victim was feeling ill and asked her mother to pick her up and bring her to a doctor.

Her mother didn’t want to see her husband, so she asked the 11-year-old girl to take a cab to her flat instead.

This led to an argument later that evening, when the man called his wife.

Instead of letting it go, the man did something unthinkable instead.

In the early hours of the following day, the man called the victim into the bedroom, and asked her to fetch a bottle of sleeping pills prescribed to victim’s grandmother.

He then told his daughter to take the pills.

Unbeknownst to the daughter, the pills contained amitriptyline, a substance listed as a poison in the Poisons Act.

She ended up swallowing six pills and then went outside to the playground as her father had requested.

Wait, so why did he do this?

According to CNA, the man told the victim he made her take the pills because he wanted to show his wife that their marital disputes had caused the victim to feel distressed.

He also wanted to prove that his wife was “at fault for not properly taking care of her own child”.

Sure, you forced your child to take six seeping pills, but the mother is at fault.

The ordeal didn’t end there for the poor girl.

After explaining this to her, the man instructed the victim to take several more pills, which she did.

Hospitalised For More Than a Month

The 11-year-old girl started to feel weak and sleepy, and ended up fainting.

The father then took her to his wife’s place, calling 995 for help on the way. There, the mother found her daughter lying on the ground, as her husband told her it’d be her fault if anything happened to their daughter.

Can someone really be so blind to their own actions?

The girl was rushed to the hospital and was found to have suffered an amitriptyline overdose. She was in “an altered mental state”, drowsy, and did not speak.

She had to remain in hospital for more than a month.

Father Told Her to Lie

Instead of owning up to his mistakes, the man told the victim to lie to the police.

He instructed her to tell anyone who asked about the incident that she had taken the pills herself to commit suicide.

And that’s exactly what the young girl did.

When the police interviewed her, while her father was next to her, the girl said she had taken the pills to kill herself because no one in her family cared about her.

She even apologised for troubling those around her.

The police said no further action would be taken against her.

Social Workers Uncover Truth

A few months later, in Aug 2018, the victim ended up making a confession when speaking to her social workers.

When police officers asked the man for his NRIC in January last year, he hurled vulgarities at them.

The man will return to court next month for mitigation and sentencing.

If convicted of his crimes, the man is looking at quite a long stint in jail.

In addition to potential fines, the man could get four years in prison for ill-treating a child under his care, seven years for perverting the course of justice, and a year for insulting a public servant.

I wonder why his wife separated from him.
