There are some things you shouldn’t do to your significant other, like forgetting their birthdays or your anniversary.
But perhaps one of the worst things you can do is punch them in the face until they have facial fractures.
That’s Exactly What This Man Did
Physical abuse is a no-no, no matter the circumstance or reason for doing so.
30-year-old Muhammad Fairuz Juprey hit his 37-year-old girlfriend in the face multiple times until she had facial fractures and a swollen left eye because he allegedly thought she was being unfaithful.
He pleaded guilty on Monday, 30 September, to one charge of voluntarily causing grievous hurt and was sentenced to nine months in jail.
His girlfriend, who is still in a relationship with him, pleaded with the judge to give him a more lenient sentence.
The Incident
The incident happened on 28 November 2018 on the staircase outside the Royal Plaza on Scotts hotel. Both of them were intoxicated at the time as they had drunk a few rounds of alcohol.
They got into an argument and Fairuz tried to take her hand to get her to follow him. She resisted and pushed his hands away. What started as an argument quickly spiralled into a one-way physical altercation.
He slapped her and hit her head twice with his hand. He also grabbed her hair and pulled her backwards, which made her fall onto the ground.
As she laid on the floor and protected her face with her hands, Fairuz punched her head and kicked her body. A bystander was able to calm Fairuz down momentarily but after Fairuz and his girlfriend spoke for a while, Fairuz began to hit her multiple more times.
The night manager at the hotel called the police and told them that Fairuz’ girlfriend was bleeding from the head.
When the police came, he denied hitting his girlfriend, while his girlfriend was sent to Tan Tock Seng Hospital.
“He Is A Loving, Caring And A Dedicated Boyfriend”
His girlfriend wrote a handwritten letter to the court to ask for leniency for her boyfriend, saying that he was a “loving, caring and a dedicated boyfriend.”
She also acknowledged that they had drunk too much and were drunk but that she was sure “he did not do it on purpose.”
“My partner has apologised to me many times and I know he is sincerely regretful for his action. I am begging Your Honour to be lenient and merciful to my partner.”
Fairuz’ lawyer also mentioned that “his client was genuinely remorseful and sad that he had hurt his girlfriend.”
Let’s hope that that is really true, but if it isn’t she should really:
