It appears that one man’s endeavour to become a sugar daddy has gone horribly wrong.
(The only acceptable sugar daddy is this one, by the way.)
According to TODAYonline, Nick Chong Seng Cheong, 24, would pay his partner S$30 to S$50 every time they have sex.
And though the creator of AllThingsSugar.sg would probably proclaim it as entirely legal, the fact remains that Chong’s partner was only… 13 years old at the time.
(“Well,” shrugs the creator of AllThingsSugar.sg. “Can’t help you there then, I’m afraid.”)
Man Who Sexually Groomed 13YO Girl for More Than a Year Jailed 34 Mths; Paid Her to Have Sex With Him
According to the news report, they first met through a chat application called ChatIW in October 2017.
He was 21, and she was 13.
Shortly after acquainting, he proposed an arrangement with her: to become “friends with benefits”.
Apparently, she agreed, but only on the condition that it would be a paid arrangement.
They then went on to have their first sexual encounter in a handicapped toilet at Tampines One Mall.
From October 2017 to February 2019, the pair would meet up almost every month. Aware of her desire to purchase games and other stuff, he eventually upped the stakes: he offered S$100 for her to lose her virginity to him.
They also frequented hotels where it was not necessary to show one’s identity card. To escape any possible suspicion, Chong would tell the girl to change out of her school uniform, and to act like his sister at the hotel lobby.
Most sexual activities took place after school on weekdays.
Apart from showing her explicit images, Chong also documented their encounters.
It was not until 12 March 2019 that the crimes came to light, when the girl filed a police report at Bedok North Neighbourhood Police Centre alleging that she has had sexual intercourse with several men.
Sentencing
In court, the prosecution pushed for a jail sentence of 36 months, while Chong’s lawyers asked for not more than 30.
In mitigation, the lawyers argued that the age gap of seven years between Chong and the girl was not objectively large, and that Chong had been 21 when he carried out most of his offences.
They also indicated that Chong holds a position as a project engineer with a diploma, thus constituting a platform for him to “anchor his rehabilitation around”.
“He is certainly not one to idle his life away,” they said, adding that he “arguably has no deep-seated criminality”.
Chong was eventually sentenced to a 34 months’ imprisonment term.
For the sexual penetration of a minor below 14, he could have faced a jail term of up to 20 years, a fine or caning.
For the possession of obscene films, he could have faced a fine of up to S$20,000, a jail term of up to six months, or both.
Other Instances
Back in November 2020, Dylan Tan pleaded guilty to one charge of having sex with a minor and one charge of sexually exploiting her.
He had gotten to know a 14-year-old girl through social media in Dec 2019, and asked her to be his girlfriend despite being aware of her age.
She agreed.
One or two days after they “got together”, he sent her nude photos of himself and requested for her to send hers “to be fair”.
Initially, she refused but gave in to his repeated requests and sent her nude photos and videos to him.
Within the same month, the couple had also gone to Tan’s home where he took her virginity during unprotected sex.
Then, they broke up.
He went on to leak an obscene video of the girl.
And in December 2019, a 40-year-old Singaporean faced 34 charges, with 17 charges each of sexual penetration of a minor under 16, and engaging in sexual activity without informing his partner about his condition
Apparently, he had sex with a 14-year-old girl despite knowing he had the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).
Not just one time either, but 17 times, according to TODAYonline.
