Remember those local dramas/movies featuring gangsters back in the day? You know, those stereotypical 90s Ah Bengs and Ah Sengs with flip-flops and blonde hair and tattoos?
Yeah, those type of “gangsters”.

I can still remember the extremely cliched reason they like to use in these shows for gangsters starting a fight. It’ll always go something like this:

“Kua simi kua! Ai sio pah ah?” (What are you looking at? You wanna fight?)
Perhaps it was a lack of originality or them simply poking fun at the “gangster culture” in Singapore, the above sentence sorta became the best reason for gangsters to fight.
Anyway, I’ve always thought that this was a movie/film thing, until I saw the news today about how this guy was jailed for breaking the nose of an acquaintance.
And the reason?
The acquaintance was staring at him.
The incident took place at a coffeeshop at 26 New Upper Changi Road at around 10 pm on 14 Dec 2016.
An unemployed 62-year-old man, Mustafa Ya’acob, confronted an acquaintance, Mr Alizah Haron, because he thought Mr Alizah was staring at him. Mustafa Ya’acob then started to punch him until Mr Alizah passed out.
Mustafa Ya’acob went to the coffee shop to buy dinner when he noticed Mr Alizah staring at him. He then told Mr Alizah to follow him to the back of the coffee for a “talk”.

Mr Alizah apologized, saying that he was intoxicated.
Despite that, Mustafa Ya’acob started punching Mr Alizah in his face. The assault only stopped after Mr Alizah lost consciousness.
Wait, what the hell? Why would someone even do something like this? That’s some horrible temper there and he really should go for anger management classes.
For all we know, this is why he’s unemployed.
I can already imagine him attacking his fellow colleague just because the colleague was looking in his direction. Sheesh.

Mr Alizah regained consciousness after someone from the coffeeshop splashed water on him. The person then brought Mr Alizah home and Mr Alizah’s wife then took him to Changi General Hospital.
Good job, kindhearted passerby!
Mr Alizah suffered a fractured nasal bone, a bruised chest and a cut on his chin.
Mustafa Ya’acob later also admitted in court that he had more than 1000 sticks of contraband cigarettes in his possession.
For his crimes, Mustafa Ya’acob was fined $7,966.10 and jailed for 6 months.

Well, ladies and gentlemen, I believe this is a perfect example why you shouldn’t be a d*ck to others—unless you wanna get slapped by a $8,000 fine!
