Let’s face it: whenever there’s a long queue at the ATM, we really want to scold the person who’s making twenty bank transfers.
This man just did what we don’t dare to do, but that isn’t why it has gone viral.
Other than the fact that he has made a rather racism remark that is pretty uncalled for, everyone isn’t focused on what he says, but rather, how he says it.
Just take a look. Or I should say, take a listen.
In university, one of my modules is to study an accent (the way people pronounce words and sentences), and in one assignment, we needed to list down the accent of a few spoken sentences. It was one heck of a tough assignment, but most of us got it right as we were only given a few English accents to work with, primarily those popular ones.
So…I can usually determine what English accent someone is using.
This one? Well, it sounds like British, but unless I really do what I did in university (like, analysing more in-depth), I think it’s not completely British…but then again, it’s so British, but the intonations aren’t strong enough…
Or maybe it’s just one of these fake accents?
I cannot be certain, but one thing is for sure: the lady is using Singapore English accent, and she’s using the dialect Colloquial Singaporean English. No wonder I support the lady.
And guess I’m not alone.
Moral of the story? The guy should bring his phone along. The queue time will magically be shortened when we have our phone and Internet with us. #truestory
