Maradona Might Have Been Accidentally ‘Killed’ by His Doctor Instead

On 25 Nov 2020, the world lost a true footballing legend.

Argentinian wizard Diego Maradona died at the age of 60 after suffering a cardiac arrest in his home.

Reporters pointed to his poor diet, extreme lifestyle, and proneness to obesity as possible factors, but now it turns out that something else may have caused his death.

Or rather, someone else.

Maradona Might Have Been Accidentally ‘Killed’ by His Doctor Instead

Argentinian police raided the home of Maradona’s personal doctor on Sunday (30 Nov), as part of investigations for involuntary manslaughter four days after the former footballer’s death.

According to television footage, the police were searching for possible evidence pointing to negligence.

Doubts over the medical treatment Maradona received for his heart condition were first raised by his three daughters, Dalma, Gianinna, and Jana.

Weeks earlier, the 60-year-old had undergone brain surgery to remove a blood clot on his brain.

He was discharged just 8 days later, on 12 Nov.

He then returned home where he could be with his daughters and received round-the-clock medical care.

A family member said the clinic had recommended that Maradona go elsewhere to be hospitalised, but the family decided otherwise.

His daughters signed for him to be discharged from the hospital, the family member said, on the condition of anonymity.

Lawyer Calls For Investigation Into Ambulance Response Time

Maradona’s lawyer also called for investigations into what he believed was a “criminal” ambulance response time.

It is claimed that after Maradona suffered a heart attack, it took ambulances more than half an hour to reach his home in response to an emergency call.

By then, of course, it was too late.

Maradona’s lawyer and agent, Matias Morla, issued a statement on Twitter about the incident, which he deemed as “criminal idiocy.”

A preliminary autopsy report revealed that Maradona died in his sleep at noon on Wednesday of “acute lung edema and chronic heart failure.”

Prosecutors are awaiting the results of toxicological tests on Maradona’s body.

They have also requested his medical records, as well as security footage from cameras near his home.

However, a judicial source said that at this point, all claims of negligence or incompetence are mere speculation: “The case was initiated because he is a person who died at home and no one signed his death certificate. It does not mean there are suspicions or irregularities”.

Funeral Workers Sparked Outrage For Posing Next to Coffin

Meanwhile, another scandal has outraged Argentinians across the country.

Three funeral workers posed with Maradona’s body as it laid inside his coffin, leaving fans furious after the photos made the rounds on social media.

One of the men was pictured giving a thumbs up while resting a hand on Maradona’s head.

Another picture shows two other men standing with the body. The younger man is giving a thumbs up and smiling.

Many fans, understandably, viewed these gestures as highly disrespectful.

In both pictures, Maradona is clearly displayed in his coffin.

Morla has threatened legal action over this scandal as well.
