Police Found Decomposing Body When Man in Marsiling Called Them After Seeing Maggots from Neighbour’s Unit

Living alone is hard for numerous reasons.

Aside from it costing more, you’re often cut off from other people, which can make you feel alone.

What’s more, if you happen to fall severely ill or have a life-threatening medical emergency, it may not always be easy to get help.

Neighbours of Marsling Unit Notice Stench, Maggots Found Later

Around a week ago, the residents of Block 18 Marsiling Lane noticed a foul odour at their block.

Assuming it was a dead rat or coming from the rubbish, the residents thought nothing of it at first. But a week later, on 29 Oct, two residents leaving their homes in the morning found maggots crawling outside their houses, along the corridor.

Tracing the wriggling creatures, the residents discovered dozens more pouring out of one of their neighbour’s units, reported Lianhe Wanbao.

Suspecting that something was wrong, the two men, Kumar and Chandra, called the police.

Dead Man Found Lying on Living Room Floor

Officers who arrived on the scene knocked on the door repeatedly, but to no avail.

Engaging a locksmith, officers unlocked the door and entered the flat, where their worst fears were confirmed. Lying motionless on the living room floor was a man who was later pronounced dead by a paramedic.

Maggots were also seen crawling around the flat.

The police have classed the case as an “unnatural death”, meaning the death was not due to a known medical illness (e.g. cancer) or a sudden stop in bodily function (e.g. sudden cardiac arrest).

The cause of unnatural deaths are typically from external forces such as foul play or suicide.

Based on their initial investigations, the police do not suspect foul play. Investigations are ongoing.

Occupants of Flat Unknown

Speaking to the Chinese daily, a neighbor said that an elderly couple in their 60s and their son had moved into the unit three years ago.

However, they’re unsure if the wife and son were still living with the man around the time he passed away.

Kumar told Lianhe Wanbao that he believes that the man lives alone, as he has not seen anyone else entering or leaving the flat in the past year.

The last time the man was seen by his neighbours was just two weeks before his corpse was discovered.
