If you’ve opened your Instagram and Whatsapp recently, you will notice something unusual at the bottom of these pages.

Instead of the usual “Facebook” logo, it reads “from Meta”.

Reader: Meta? You mean mata, the name we call the police here?

No, I mean Facebook’s new name, Meta.

Unfortunately for Mark Zuckerberg, this name is not entirely original and the creator of this name is not backing down without a USD$20 million fight.

There’s Already Another Company Called Meta & They’re Asking USD$20 Million from Facebook to Release The Name

META PC, a PC company in the United States, is not willing to give up its name for anything less than USD$20 million.

The name “META” was already trademarked by the founders of the PC company, Joe Darger and Zack Shutt, back in August. The company that sells computers, laptops, tablets and software have been running for a little over a year but they recently decided to trademark the “META” brand recently.

However META PC’s trademark petition was not granted yet, so it is still up in the air as to who gets the name, “META”. But for a small price of USD$20 million, META PC is willing to give the name to Zuckerberg.

Why USD$20 Million?

USD$20 million seems like a lot of zeros but there’s a reason behind this amount.

As META is the brand name of the PC company, giving it up would mean that the company have to rebrand their entire company. A remake of all of their stocks will incur a large cost, thus that is where this high price point comes about.

On the other hand, META PC seemed to be having fun with their newfound extreme popularity with over 5,000% increase in their followers across social media platforms.

Their founder, Shutt also posted a funny nine seconds video inspired by Mark Zuckerberg’s announcement.

Who knows, if Zuckerburg gets the name “META”, Darger and Shutt can name their PC empire “Facebook”.

In case you are confused about why the social media that you love to post hate comments on is changing to a name that you’ve never heard of, you should read this article.
