A new crisis is here to hit all of us in the heart and the wallet: Mixue will be raising their prices of their Signature KingCone.
Major sads.
From 25 Nov, the ice cream cone will cost $1.50 instead of $1.
The Iconic $1 Mixue Ice-Cream Cone Will Cost $1.50 from 25 Nov
This breaking news was brought to the attention of the mass public when someone posted a photo of a notice taped to the window of a Mixue outlet on Complaint Singapore’s Facebook page.
“Inflation 50%,” was what Facebook user Andrew Lim wrote to caption the news.
“This change was due to the rising cost of raw materials, allowing us to continue using high-quality ingredients, and to our commitment to maintaining the high standards you expect from us,” the notice read, in both English and Chinese.
Which, to be very fair, is forgivable. The ice cream cone, at the very beginning, was pretty affordable for the mass public, and a lot of F&B operators, like hawker stall aunties and uncles, have been complaining about having to balance rising ingredient prices with the expectations of affordability from their customers.
The comments on the post has, however, been a mixture of neutral to negative.
“Go eat Mac ice cream, taste better and cheaper,” said one user, which, kinda rude. Way to pit one global franchise against another, boomer.
“Only the naive believe that $1 will last forever,” commented another. Also kinda hurtful. Don’t hurt the dreamers.
“Their ice cream isn’t anything special,” joked a commenter in Chinese. Which is really quite rude. There are cathedrals everywhere for those with the eyes to see, and there is rich cream and dairy for those with tastebuds and a dream.
Mixue Giving Out Vouchers to Customers
But if you do like Mixue ice cream and you genuinely think their ice cream IS special, fret not.
Mixue is offering 1,000 vouchers at each store to ease into the “transition period”, in order to thank customers for their support, and are available while stocks last.
Details of the giveaway are not as clear however, like the valuation of each voucher, or if there is a maximum or minimum purchase amount to be made.
Mixue, which has seen its rise in popularity amongst people in Singapore due to its affordable prices, has seen snaking queues at its takeaway kiosks across the island.
Its popularity isn’t just localised in Singapore though: Mixue has more than 28,000 outlets in just China alone, and has more than 16,000 franchised stores globally.
