When it comes to our children, it really does seem like there’s no one you can trust.
Many cases of sexual abuse and misconduct with young teenagers and children often involve deviants who had gained the family’s trust.
This can be friends, relatives, or in this instance, a teacher.
Former Primary School Teacher Molested 12YO Former Student Whom He Had a Father-Son Relationship With
The case involves a former primary school teacher and a then-12-year-old who was his student at the time.
The now 36-year-old man had been the boy’s form teacher in 2016.
The boy, who was raised by a single mother, grew close to the man and shared a father-son relationship with him.
But instead of taking care of him, the man took advantage of the young child.
On 15 June 2017, the man was in the boy’s house on a sleepover, suggested by the 36-year-old.
While alone with the teen, the man started talking about pornography under the pretext of “sex education”.
He then tapped the 12-year-old’s genitals over his shorts, then later that day, inserted his hand into the boy’s underwear and shorts to touch his genitals.
He tried to touch the boy’s genitals again the next morning.
Jailed For 2.5 Years; Intends to Appeal Against Conviction & Sentence
Today (9 Sep), the man was sentenced to two-and-a-half years’ imprisonment and three strokes of the cane for three offences of outrage of modesty and attempted outrage of modesty.
The man intends to appeal both the conviction and the sentence. He also wants to claim trial to two remaining charges, namely:
- Voluntarily causing hurt by grabbing the boy’s wrists and slapping his cheek
- Exhibiting an obscene object by showing him a pornographic video on his laptop during the sleepover
The judge noted that the boy had become “insecure and easily angered” after the molestations, and got a tattoo on his arm that read “trust no one”.
The prosecution also pointed out that the boy came from a poor family, and that his mother could not afford to keep an eye on him all the time as she had to work and take care of his siblings.
The former teacher even groomed the boy’s mother, transferring over S$1,000 to her in the month when he committed the offences, in the hopes that she wouldn’t report him.
The 36-year-old no longer teaches and is currently unemployed. He cannot be named due to a court order to protect the victim’s identity.
Speaking in court, the victim, who is now 16, said the man had been like family to him and his mother.
