PM Lee & 1,715 AMK Residents Set a New Record for Most Number of People Completing a Jigsaw Puzzle

Everyone’s heard of the Guinness World Records, but did you know that Singapore has its very own book of records?

Reader: Oh wow, what is it called?

The Singapore Book of Records.

Reader: Okay I don’t know what else I was expecting

Established in 2005, it primarily compiles and adjudicates all records in Singapore, but also advises and promotes world records.

Singapore is only one of around 30 countries around the world that has its own record-keeping bodies.

And now, even with COVID-19 in the way, we’re still breaking records.

PM Lee & 1,715 AMK Residents Set a New Record for Most Number of People Completing a Jigsaw Puzzle

Take a bow, Ang Mo Kio, because you’re now in the record books. Literally.

Yesterday (4 Sep), residents of Ang Mo Kio-Hougang ward set a new jigsaw puzzle record, along with some help from a resident named Lee Hsien Loong (not sure if you’ve heard of him).

The title for the record is Highest Number of People Completing a Jigsaw Puzzle.

From 21 Aug to 31 Aug, residents of the area, along with other members of the public, headed to Ci Yuan Community Club to contribute one piece each.

Visiting was carried out at staggered times and there was safe distancing in place as well.

The final pieces were put up by PM Lee, who is an MP for Ang Mo Kio GRC. Children who are beneficiaries of the Bag to School initiative also helped with the last few pieces.

When the puzzle was finally completed, a total of 1,716 people had contributed a piece each, making them the current record holders for the most number of people completing a jigsaw puzzle.

The previous record holders were a group of 1,498 people, who were listed in the Singapore Book of Records.

The puzzle, which measures 4.8m by 2m, depicts the constituency map of the Ang Mo Kio-Hougang ward and all its iconic locations.

Nice.

So, what other records have recently been broken here?

Most Number of Steps Walked in a Hotel Room

Many of us who’ve been abroad during the pandemic have had to endure quarantine in a tiny hotel room for two weeks.

When faced with this, we can either fully submit to the sloth life and lie in bed for 14 days, or do what Jason Doan Thuan Hai did back in Dec 2020.

Mr Hai had returned to Singapore from the US, and had to quarantine for two weeks.

But he made good use of his time indoors, as he came up with a vigorous exercise regime where he would walk around his hotel room continuously.

Believe it or not, he walked a total of 429,883 steps, or approximately 355.13 km as recorded by his phone app.

Thanks to his determination, he’s now a record holder.

Yes, you can do anything you set your mind to.
