Singaporeans heading to the 2026 BYD Singapore International Marathon will not have to fight for a taxi at an ungodly hour.
Selected MRT services will operate from 2.30am to 4.30am on Sunday, 6 December 2026, when the full marathon takes place.
Trains will arrive every 15 minutes, and the rides will be complimentary.
Better still, the free rides are not restricted to runners. All members of the public, including supporters and volunteers, can use them.
For once, being awake at 3am could save you money instead of creating a supper bill.
Only Selected MRT Stations Will Open Early
The early services will operate along selected sections of the North-South Line, East-West Line and Circle Line.
This does not mean that every station on the three lines will be open.
The final complimentary trains will depart from Bukit Batok, Jurong East, Tanah Merah and Serangoon at 4.30am.
Passengers will not need to present a race bib, registration confirmation or any other proof that they are attending the marathon.
The gantries at participating stations will be left open, allowing passengers to enter without tapping their cards or phones.
A complete list of participating stations is available on the marathon’s official race-day transport page.
Runners should also note that the marathon itself begins at 4.30am. In other words, the final train is meant for the public and late-arriving supporters, not runners hoping to magically teleport from Bukit Batok to the starting pen.
Free Trains Are Only Available on Full Marathon Day
The complimentary MRT service will only operate on Sunday, 6 December, for the 42.195km BYD Marathon.
It will not be available for the adidas Half Marathon, which begins at 4.30am on Saturday, 5 December.
According to the organiser, the early MRT arrangement is being introduced as a pilot for one race category first. The programme could be expanded in future editions after the organisers review how the initial rollout performs.
Half-marathon participants will instead be able to book dedicated paid shuttle buses to the starting area.
Paid shuttle services will also be offered throughout the race weekend for participants who do not have convenient access to the selected MRT stations. The routes, prices and ticketing details will be released closer to the event.
The Marathon Starts at the F1 Pit Building
The full marathon will begin at the F1 Pit Building at 4.30am on 6 December.
Runners will complete the race at the National Stadium, with a seven-hour cut-off time.
The wider marathon weekend will take place from 4 to 6 December, with other categories including the half marathon, 10km, 5km and Kids Dash.
Registration is scheduled to close on 30 September, or earlier if all available entries are taken up.
Why It Is No Longer Called the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon
Many Singaporeans may still instinctively call the event the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon.
However, BYD became the event’s title sponsor for 2026, while adidas joined as its presenting sponsor.
Standard Chartered remains involved as the official bank partner and sponsor of the 10km category.
So yes, it is essentially Singapore’s familiar national marathon with a new name, new sponsors and, thankfully for sleepy runners, much earlier trains.
