It’s no secret that those who cross the Causeway frequently are possibly a few of the sneakiest people in the world, for some things in Malaysia may be cheap and good but unable to pass the borders.

It seems as if illegal activities tend to make people more creative, for there’s been a fair share of people trying to smuggle contraband duty unpaid items into Singapore from next door. Don’t lie – you’ve smuggled bubble gum back to Singapore one too many times already.

From hiding cigarettes in every car compartment to hiding them in your pants and passing it off as fortunate anatomy, there’s nothing the desperate won’t try.

But how about… sandwiches?

Of all the possible delicious options, a Malaysian man decided that cigarette packets would make for a good sandwich filling one fine morning during his travels.

Cigarette Sandwiches

The Immigration & Checkpoints Authority, or ICA as we fondly know them, shared a post on Facebook of their latest victory over smugglers.

On 8 Dec, they caught a 52-year-old Malaysian man trying to smuggle contraband cigarettes into Singapore using an extremely creative method.

The man was dragging along four loaves of bread at the customs’ Arrival Bus Hall, behaving suspiciously which attracted the attention of ICA officers. I mean, maybe he was just very hungry…

After deciding to conduct further inspection on the man and his goods, they found 32 packets of duty-unpaid cigarette packets sandwiched in between his white bread.

Come on, everyone knows you use wholemeal to smuggle cigarettes.

Amazing idea. Upon first glance, it doesn’t look like there’s anything hidden in between the bread, honestly.

But of course, the officers soon found the cigarette packs.

Further investigation for his case is still going on at the Singapore Customs.

Well… he gets an A for effort even if he doesn’t get his cigarettes.
