There are many scary creatures out there.
A snake can literally squeeze you to death, a pack of wolves could devour your flesh, and some microscopic parasites can literally eat your brain.
But only one organism on this planet can make you voluntarily pee on another person.
I’m talking, of course, about the jellyfish.
Jellyfish have been floating around our seas for millions of years, terrorizing us with their torturous stings.
While most stings are not emergencies, they are incredibly painful.
But if you come across the box jellyfish, well that’s an entirely different kettle of jellyfish.
Stings from this little guy can be extremely painful and even fatal to humans. That’s why it’s good to be extra cautious when you go for a swim in foreign seas (especially Australia).
So, what should you do if you encounter one? Run far, far way of course. Unless you’re this man from Penang, in which case, you could simply assert your dominance over it by grabbing it with your bare hands.
M’sian Man Handles Jellyfish With His Bare Hands
Penang Kini recently shared a video about a “jellyfish specialist” who offered tips on dealing with jellyfish stings.
The jellyfish specialist could have done this in his home, office, or any room for that matter, with a simple slideshow presentation.
But he decided that he needed to grab an actual jellyfish from the sea for his demonstration instead.
The person who recorded the video said the man, Abang Siva, spotted a jellyfish nearby and caught it while they were having a chat.
The netizen said that Siva has been living by the seaside since he was 12 and has been stung a few times before.
He then gave the netizen some advice on how to deal with jellyfish stings.
Tips On What To Do If Stung
If you’re planning to go to Penang, you might want to take note.
Siva says that there are two types of jellyfish in Penang. A white one and a transparent one. The white one isn’t as dangerous. When it stings you, you will feel an itch or pain for 30 minutes to an hour.
“One way of overcoming the pain is by applying vinegar or urine”, he said.
But if you get stung by the transparent one, then you might have a problem, because it apparently latches itself to your flesh and will burrow its way to your bones if it’s not ripped off.
“Once you are able to detach it from your limb, rush to the hospital and get treatment as it may be fatal”, he said.
How to catch one
Siva also described how to safely catch a jellyfish with your hands: grab and hold the jellyfish using the palm of your hand, and “not close to your skin at the back”, because there’s where you risk getting stung.
Thanks for the tip. All this time I’ve been swimming in oceans looking at jellyfish just wishing I could grab one with my bare hands, and now I finally can.
Siva said that once you catch a jellyfish, you should let it dry in the sun and then bury it in the sand instead of throwing it back into the ocean, where other people can get stung.
So, in other words, he’s telling us to kill that mofo.
I don’t know about you, but I’m not about to grab jellyfish out of the ocean with my hands. But at least I know what to do when I get stung by one; ask people around me to hand me a bottle of vinegar they just happened to bring to the beach.
And if that doesn’t work, as your child might say, it’s pee-pee time.
