Constantly pledging to quit smoking?

Finding it harder than ever to do so?

Well, while this low budget video of an anti-smoking device might not serve as the best anti-smoking deterrent

It might just tug at your earnest desires to quit smoking, once and for all.

The Shock Watch

The Design Thinking and Innovation Bootcamp, a competition organised by the Health Promotion Board in collaboration with Nanyang Polytechnic’s School of Design, saw participating secondary school students establish teams to create prototypes of anti-smoking devices or campaigns, in a bid to assist smokers with kicking the habit.

And one of these videos, a Shock Watch feature from a team of Nan Chiau High School Students, subsequently went viral.

Not because it features such mind-bending story elements that smokers are compelled to quit upon watching it, but because…

It’s just so earnest and heartfelt in its message.

Opening with an introductory sequence that exposes viewers to the team’s identification and proposal, the video starts off with a 15-year-old teenager called Bob who smokes 2 packs of cigarettes….

…a day.

Damn Bob, you badass.

Thereafter, Bob’s about to continue his badass smoking run at a void deck when a guy appeared and said:

“NO! Stop smoking!!!! Try this instead!”

Notice that he’s looking straight at the camera as he said it, which paints two pictures:

  • He’s telling us, the audience, not to stop smoking
  • He’s checking the cameraman out
  • But I’m digressing

Despite the 4thwallbreakingdude’s interference, however, Bob persisted in his smoking habits and attempted to take a puff from it. He was jolted, however, when the watch shocked him.

But being the badass he was, he just laughed it off and continued smoking. Which led to a complication nobody could’ve imagined:

The watch turned pink and began playing kiddy music out loud.

Right on cue, bystanders began to laugh, and embarrassed…

Netizens react

Honestly speaking, you would kinda expect Netizens to hold nothing back when commenting about this video. Cos Netizens.

Interestingly, however, it seems that Netizens have a heart after all.

Granted, there were less than complimentary comments like this…

But overall, positivism reigned supreme.

Though again, it might not be so much of the Netizens’ positivism at work…

But just the earnest will and effort showcased by these students instead.
