As of Today (30 Nov), Almost All NEA Hawker Centres Are Ready for Dine-In Groups of 5

When the government first announced that they’re increasing the capacity for dining out from two to five, were you unhappy that coffee shops and hawker centres weren’t included in the list?

Are you someone who doesn’t want to dine out at restaurants in groups of five because, well, it’s expensive?

Do you find yourself fervently hoping that you can dine out at hawker centres in groups of five again?

Because if you are, I’ve got great news for you.

As of Today (30 Nov), Almost All NEA Hawker Centres Are Ready for Dine-In Groups of 5

If you’ve missed your favourite duck rice or wanton mee breakfast with your family of four, I’ve got great news for you.

As of 30 Nov 2021, almost all NEA and NEA-approved hawker centres are now ready to accommodate groups of up to five people for dine-in.

There are, however, a few hawker centres that are not ready just yet, and it’s not because they’re not ready to enforce Vaccinated-Differentiated Safe Management Measures (VDS).

Four of them are closed for Repairs and Redecoration (read: renovation):

  • Kallang Estate Fresh Market and Food Centre
  • Amoy Street Food Centre
  • Duman Food Centre

While another four are closed for spring cleaning:

  • Boon Lay Place Market & Food Village
  • Blk 4A Jalan Batu Hawker Centre
  • Empress Road Food Centre
  • Blk 216 Bedok North Street 1

You can check out this link to see when they’ll reopen.

Accessing The Hawker Centres

By now, we’re probably more than aware of how to get access into these hawker centres, but here’s a refresher (courtesy of NEA) anyway:

When you first arrive at the hawker centre, verify your vaccination status at the access points (entry) with your TraceTogether app or token.

If you’re a fully-vaccinated person or an eligible person allowed to dine in, you’ll be given a sticker.

The sticker is to identify you as an individual who is allowed to dine in.

The List Will Be Added To Progressively

As previously mentioned, the list of coffee shops and hawker centres allowed to have groups of up to five people dining in will be progressively added to.

On 26 Nov, 17 coffee shops and canteens were allowed to have groups of five.

Now, just a few days later, the list has grown to a whopping 71.

To be eligible to accommodate up to five-pax groups, coffee shops and hawker centres must be able to control access to their premises and have dedicated entry points.

At entry points, the operators must be able to check the vaccination status of customers and differentiate between the dine-in customers (those with stickers) and those who are getting takeaways (without stickers).
