Especially during Chinese New Year.

But what if before their glorious, red, juicy tender state, it looks something like this.

Yup. You saw that right.

Slabs of raw meat drying against the dusty air-conditioner compressor vents like they’re at Palawan Beach.

And if you think that aircon compressor looks familiar, that’s because it is.

This scene happened at the second storey of an HDB flat at Beach Road. And trays of meat were placed under the sun on the ground floor of a nearby block.

The best part? These meat are made into meat jerky for sale.

According to reports, these slabs of meat are meant to be made into meat jerky and sold at two places.

A store at Golden Mile Complex and a “home manufacturer”.

It was claimed by a sixty-year-old man that he can get his meat “up to 80% dry” on a good day.

Then, the meat will be cooked and sold on the street or at the store.

And the practice has allegedly been happening for years

Residents living in the area were disgusted at the unhygienic practice.

The drying meat allegedly attracted flies and birds, and residents witness plenty of insects crawling on the slabs of meat.

And that’s just the visual.

Imagine the stench of drying, raw meat.

The residents said the corridor was a “no-go-zone” for the area as the smell was too disgusting.

One of the residents claimed that it has been going on for years.

“I don’t remember exactly how long this has been going on, but it has been years, at least two to three, as far as I remember.”

The resident added that she doesn’t think it’s the owner of the unit that’s been drying the meat.

Poor owners.

NEA is now investigating the incident

As with anything that goes viral, the relevant authorities will start their investigations immediately.

And this time isn’t any different.

The NEA said that they were alerted to the incident and that they’re investigating the situation.

It was added that should anyone be found to have violated the Environmental Public Health Act, they won’t hesitate to take action.

Drying meat miraculously disappeared, sort of.

When reporters visited the site, they reported that the racks of meat have been removed from the aircon compressors.

However, their sharp eyes managed to detect small pieces of shredded dried meat all over the corridor floor.

The trays of meat on the ground floor were also removed.

Even the nearby shop at Golden Mile has stopped selling meat jerky.

They were selling 20 to 30 boxes of the meat jerky daily for the past one and a half years.

The shop denied knowing the source of the meat.

Customers who were spoken to, however, were not disgusted at knowing how the meat came about. They said that the taste reminded them of home, having been made through similar methods like those in their home country.

Wait. What?

With the influx of mass food poisoning cases, let’s just say that NEA’s really got their hands full nowadays.
