When there are over a hundred flats in one apartment complex, with people living in close proximity to each other, there is bound to be conflict.
Typically, this is due to some inconsiderate residents provoking their neighbours by doing weird things like placing pig ears on their shoe rack.
Other times, it could be something more innocuous, like a religious ritual. But if not carried out safely, it could present a danger to other residents.
A Neighbour’s Incense Burning on a Cardboard Allegedly Caused a Fire in an HDB Corridor
An aggrieved resident has taken to social media to complain about a neighbour who allegedly set off a fire by burning incense outside his flat.
She detailed the incident in a post on Facebook.
Speaking to MS News, the netizen said that this neighbour has burned incense in the corridor as part of his prayer ritual every day for the past two years.
And he apparently does so on a cardboard box:
The netizen said she previously lodged a complaint about her neighbour’s incense burning to the Town Council, but nothing much has changed.
Despite getting a warning from the Town Council, the neighbour has allegedly continued burning incense in the corridor.
Recently, this grew from a small nuisance to a full-blown fire.
Yesterday (4 Sep), the neighbour’s incense burning allegedly led to a fire breaking out in the corridor. The irate netizen uploaded a video of the fire’s aftermath, showing burnt pieces of what is presumably the cardboard box.
The netizen claimed that the fire also damaged her son’s tricycle.
Fortunately, no one was injured in the fire.
Netizen: Neighbour is Able-bodied & Can Burn Incense Downstairs
The netizen said that she has no problems with the man doing his daily prayer rituals, but wishes that he could do so at the foot of their block.
“Mind you he is very able-bodied. Not even limping. So he can go down and do this but nooooo.. Now my house almost got burn,” the netizen wrote.
According to the netizen, both the police and the Singapore Civil Defence Force came down after the fire erupted in the corridor and issued a warning to the man.
But the netizen isn’t convinced that anything will change.
“He still can laugh and all ah now outside my house,” she wrote.
The man apparently only burns the incense when his neighbours’ doors are closed, but while they may not be able to see what he’s doing, they can still smell the smoke.
