A wise man once said, “If you want to be successful, grab some fast-food breakfast. It’ll show that your life is on the fast lane every morning.”
I followed his advice, and while I’m still here pumping out articles daily like a factory, my life has indeed been on the fast lane: the fast lane to a bigger tummy.
But what he’s said is true to some extent: in Singapore, time is money so we can’t afford to sit in a hawker centre and slowly wait for our half-boiled egg to be half-boiled.
Moreover, fast-food chains are even coming out with healthy options, like McDonald’s Red Rice Porridge which looks more like red bean soup:
And KFC seems to have got the memo, for they’ve been coming out with new breakfast items as fast as me coming out with new articles. The last one failed me…
…but I’m not giving up.
So when KFC announced its new breakfast item, the Cheesy Double Turkey Bacon Burger, I have to steal my boss’s credit card.
I mean, look at this video.
It even has a wholemeal bun—a sign that it’s gonna keep my waistline in check.
But sadly, it didn’t meet my expectation; read on and you’ll understand.
What KFC Says (Expectations)
If you’ve no data to watch the video, here’s a concise summary:
It’s a burger with two turkey bacon, an egg, a slice of cheese and cheese sauce all sandwiched with a wholemeal bun.
Look at the bacon…
…look at the egg…
…and look at the cheese.
And this is one view that’ll turn an herbivore to a carnivore:
And in KFC’s words, it’s the “perfect breakfast burger of your dreams – Introducing the KFC Cheesy Double Turkey Bacon Burger”.
Unfortunately, to me, it seems like it’s really a perfect breakfast burger…in my dreams.
What We Say (Reality)
For a start, here’s an image of the burger in reality:
Okay, maybe the delivery personnel stole some of the fillings because he’s hungry, but the first comment on the video in KFC Facebook Page seems to agree with me.
The first thought that comes to me (and pretty sure everyone else) is this:
It’s not even enough to feed our resident cat.
But the wise man has said this before, too: “Very often, quality is more important than quantity. Just like Goody Feed, they come out with so many trashy articles, but each of their article—”
So, I gave it a try, and boy…
…was I not disappointed.
Taste Test
I was not disappointed because my expectations had dropped to the lowest: I expected a bun with egg, and well, it was literally a bun with an egg.
There are indeed two crispy bacons in it, together with the signature cheese sauce, but with the overwhelming bun that tastes slightly floury and the big egg, all my taste buds could register were the bun and the egg.
Occasionally, the bacon would add some savouriness to the burger, but that’s about it: they should have called it the “floury egg burger” instead of “Cheesy Double Turkey Bacon Burger”.
Thank God I’ve got chilli sauce with me, if not I might just decide to pass it to our resident cat to makan.
Turkey Bacon are Goody, Though
Despite everything, the turkey bacon are pretty decent. It’s salty and full of crunch, and I presume that without it, I won’t be able to down the entire burger in its entirety even with chilli sauce.
But still, if I were to make any suggestion, here’s one: have a pack of chilli (or tomato) sauce with you. Unless you love egg burgers.
Rating: 1.5 / 5 Stars
Would I go for it again? Of course not; but its BFF, which is the Riser Burger, is one to die for. So if you die-die want to try the Floury Egg Burger, order its BFF as well.
