If you’ve been to Punggol, you probably would have noticed the huge empty field right next to the MRT station.
It’s been there for years and no one really knew what it was for (besides using it for a picnic spot or a play area for kids).
Well, now we know.
New Office & Retail Development to be Built Beside Punggol MRT Station
Half of the field, equivalent to around one hectare, will be rezoned for commercial use.
Yep. Say bye-bye to your hopes of having a BTO site in probably the most pristine location in Punggol.
The new development will be built in an epic location with Waterway Point within walking distance as well as being located beside Punggol Walk and Punggol Central, with the MRT station also being located right beside it.
According to an Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) spokesperson, the area will provide more office spaces and retail options for Punggol residents.
The development comes on top of the upcoming Punggol Digital District to open more office spaces and enable residents to work closer to their homes.
Because we’re all lazy, and who doesn’t hate the morning MRT crowds on the way to work at 8am?
Anyways, not everyone in Punggol liked the idea of the field being redeveloped.
According to interviews done by The Straits Times, residents said that Punggol is already a hotspot for many due to its access to an MRT, LRT, bus interchange, and mall.
The crowds during peak hours can get quite heavy, so it’s understandable that some will worry about it worsening after the development.
On the other hand, another resident believes that the new building could help ease the crowds at Waterway Point as there would be more food and beverage options.
More details of the site will be shared by the URA when they’re ready, so I guess all we can do now is sit back and wait.
