Well, looks like another Mediacorp artiste is leaving us yet again.
This time around, our loss comes in the form of Xu Bin, known for his role as Hong Shunshui in local TV drama 《118》 and Zhang Minghui in 《The Queen
复仇女王》.

Xu, who was born in China, moved to Singapore to pursue his studies. He allegedly became passionate about entertainment at the age of 1 and has taken part in Campus SuperStar, representing Woodlands Ring Secondary School.

After graduating from Temasek Polytechnic in 2012, he was given a role in a Singaporean movie, <Timeless Love>, marking his return to the entertainment industry.
Xu has consecutively won the “Top 10 Most Popular Male Artistes” award three times during Star Awards from 2014 to 2016.
He has also won the “Favourite Male Character” award in 2013 and 2016.
Leaving Mediacorp
Like many Mediacorp artistes before him, Xu Bin chose not to recontract after the end of his previous contract in 2017. He has also stated that he is hoping for opportunities outside of Singapore.
When interviewed by Lianhe Wanbao, Xu Bin says that his contract has ended last year, and it was just in time for his wedding. As such, he did not have the time to discuss a new contract.
At the moment, Xu is keeping his wife company in Wu Han, China as he hopes to spend more time with his newly wedded wife.
According to Xu, he is planning to venture into different fields in the future, including working behind the scenes. However, he has also added that he will not give up on starring in local dramas.

In the last four months, a number of Mediacorp artistes have not re-contracted. In October 2017, it is revealed that Jeannette Aw left Mediacorp at the peak of her career. About one month later, celebrity couple Andie Chen & Kate Pang left Mediacorp to focus on new media.
Just last month, reports of Sharon Au leaving Mediacorp surfaced as she would be leaving them after 1 February 2018. Soon after, news of Tong Bing Yu leaving Mediacorp surfaced.
Man, these are really trying times for Mediacorp! Although I don’t really watch local dramas, it’s still sad to know that our talents are leaving one by one.
Let’s hope things will get better for them this year!
