Remember the Yishun case?

Okay, maybe I should have been a little more specific; I could have been referring to cat murders, human murders, loan sharks, or car chases.

I was referring to an incident two months ago where an Instagram user accused police officers of bullying an elderly woman in Yishun.

After airing his grievances online, several online platforms then began publishing articles on his accusations, forcing the gahmen to issue a POFMA corrective.

Police bodycam footage, which was publicly released, later proved that the man’s claims were inaccurate.

Now, he’s gotten into trouble with the law, but for a completely unrelated charge.

Used Criminal Force on Auxiliary Police Officer

On 7 Oct, a Certis auxiliary police force enforcement officer was performing parking enforcement duties in Clemenceau Avenue when he spotted one parked car at around 4 pm that did not display the necessary coupons.

After making a check on his handheld device and confirming there was no activation of the “parking.sg” app for the vehicle, the officer issued a summons.

The Instagrammer, Nicholas Tan Jun Wei, then approached the officer and shouted at him.

Tan then pushed the officer’s right forearm when he was attempting to hand over the summons to him.

He challenged the officer to call the police, but when the victim actually whipped out his phone to do so, Tan snatched it away.

Tan eventually returned the device when asked, but abused the officer with vulgar language.

He then entered his car and hurled more vulgarities at the officer before driving off.

Jailed For Two Weeks’

Yesterday, the 28-year-old was sentenced to two weeks’ jail after pleading guilty to using criminal force on a public servant.

Another charge of harassment was also taken into consideration for sentencing.

In his defence, his lawyers said Tan “did not seek to cause hurt” to the victim.

“This has been a thoroughly sobering experience for Nicholas and he deeply regrets how the incident had come about.

“This is a wake-up call for Nicholas and he promises never to reoffend again,” they said.

Threw Bicycle at Auxillary Police Officer

In another case last December, a 53-year-old man kicked an auxiliary police officer and even threw a bicycle at them.

Why?

Because the officer had earlier approached him for a littering offence.

For using criminal force on the officer, voluntarily causing hurt, and using threatening words and behaviour at a public servant, Sulaiman Shaik Alladin was jailed for 18 weeks.

So, when a police officer catches you breaking the law, the best thing to do is accept the punishment, unless you want more.
